wmw999 2,589 #1 July 7, 2009 There's a game some managers, and some posters, play. It's called "rock." The party of the first part basically says "bring me a rock" (or "guess what I really mean"). So the willing party of the second part brings a rock, or responds to what he thought was said. "Wrong!" comes the answer. "Bring me another rock!" They might even explain why this is the wrong rock, but without providing a whole lot of information as to what would make a rock right. It's a really boring game after awhile. Knowing what is inside your own mind better than others does not, in fact, demonstrate your superior intelligence and insight. It more makes you look like a dick. If you find yourself typing "Guess again" about your posts to others frequently, you might want to consider if you're playing "rock." Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. pirana 0 #6 July 7, 2009 QuoteIt's a really boring game after awhile. Actually, it sounds really boring from the get go. I'd also add that I don't think I get it, but I don't want to sound dense." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
JohnRich 4 #7 July 7, 2009 Quote I'd also add that I don't think I get it, but I don't want to sound dense. She's commenting on people who don't explain themselves well enough, such that readers have to try and guess what their point is, and then the poster responds again, still without providing any additional details to clarify, acting indignant that they didn't get it correct the first time. At least I think that's what she's saying. And the fact that I've had to clarify Wendy's point for her, maybe indicates that her message was itself a rock. Glad to help out though - we flying dinosaurs gotta stick together.

Well, apparently I've been the dense one on that. Just got the connation of your avatars. That's clever. ) Remember the first time that I saw a California Condor, near Bixby Bridge north of Big Sur, the first thing that went through my head was "that looks like a pterodactyl." Wendy, I am sure that you realise how many of the posters to this forum you are describing. The irony is how many of said posters don't recognise themselves.
