mnealtx 0 #226 June 9, 2009 Quotewhat else might we do? Answering the half-dozen people that have asked you "how much more are we supposed to pay so that this woman doesn't have to work?" would be a good start. Then you could go on to explain why a discussion about minimum wage is anything BUT a strawman argument when the woman in your OP isn't working.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. FallingOsh 0 #227 June 10, 2009 Quote in the same way the minimum wage has to be set at the right level for the current economic circumstances. The economy is in the shitter and continuing to sink. Companies are struggling just so stay afloat. Therefore, the current economic circumstances dictate the minimum wage should be reduced. This would lessen the burden on business and allow them to keep employees. Setting minimum wage to reflect the current economic condition is brilliant! The good news is that those three kids we keep talking about won't be affected one bit since their mother wasn't working in the first place. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. dreamdancer 0 #228 June 10, 2009 Quote What do you think happens to other jobs? Wage inflation. So the Legal secretary making $14.00 per hour is now lumped in with burger flippers. Either they go to flipping burgers or they get a raise to $20.00 per hour. And it keeps going. you sound just like a union shop steward here - gotta keep those wage differentials up (would you advise the legal secretaries to strike for more pay)stay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding

dreamdancer 0 #230 June 10, 2009 Quote Assuming 40 hour work weeks with two weeks vacation in California, that's a married couple making $64000 per year for minimum wage. that means if they have children they won't be needing any welfare payments - and can even contribute to the tax system (thus, in your eyes, having 'value')stay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding
