I had a plush Martin as the hood ornament on my riding lawn mower until one fateful day when his attachment point failed. (Should have had a backup lanyard). It happened so fast, one moment he was perky and bouncing along, lighting my way o'er hill and dale; the next he was just so much fluff strewn across the lawn. The remnants not further mutilated by our dogs were collected for a proper ceremony (closed casket of course) after which we scattered his stuffings in the stream, to float freely all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.
