What is done or been modified for shortfields?

That I don't know. I just know for certain that it has been landed on at least one runway that is too short for a "stock" 747.

Some great stuff guys, I have afeeling this thread will spin of really quick to bush Vs Obama though.
My thought is that the new admin is asking everyone to cut back, yet he is traveling a ton right now, making "small" trips to Iowa and stuff like that.
I am not saying cut back security, but maybe reduce the numbers of trips, perhaps ride in the c-130 or what ever else is transporting all the limos or catch a military jet instead of breaking out 3 choppers and the presidental jet.. why does there have to be so much waste and espically on Earth day? just does not seem like change to me.
this is not an obama bash either, I am sure that just about every past pres has done this and it's time for that style of over the top waste to stop.
Now how do we get the admin to stop doing that?
joe

Pssst.. he is the head of a country.... its his job to see and be seen:S

Even I did not begrudge the moron from Texas his trips to Texas.. and all over the world.

Agreed, but that's not the issue. Do as I say, not as I do is the problem. It's an even bigger problem if taxes and the price of goods increases because of government mandated environmental regulations. If they want to play on yachts or waste thousands of gallons of fuel for a photo op, that's fine with me. Just don't bitch about my F-150 or cry about the polar bears. I 100% guarantee he fucked up the environment more on that one trip than my entire family will for the next 5-10 years. (Speaking in terms of average fuel use, engine efficiency, and money spent on food and lodging.)

If I did, I'll bet they wouldn't include the cost of a personal make-up artist for the first lady as we have now.;)

You must have missed the thread in which it was pointed out that such expenses are covered by the Obamas, not the taxpayers.

I have to. It has been into SBN a number of times. But it has no problem getting in. From what I see nothing is done to help short fields. No winglets, or raked tips and there is only so much you can to with a CF6. It's just taking off light. No cargo in the belly, light on fuel. You don't need 200,000lbs when your only flying for a few hours. That right there will make a 747 hop off the ground pretty fast.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

A former 747 captain I worked with told us what the modification was at the time. I just don't remember what it was right now.

What facts do you have that his trip to promote responsible living wasn't more wasteful than any one person over the course of a decade?

The real question is.... how good a make up artist do you use for those special appearances.:ph34r::ph34r:

Kind of interesting - I checked out numerous news stories on the subject and each one said the Obama's cover the make-up artists travel expenses, but did not say who pays for the actual services.
