434 2 #1 April 14, 2009 The broadcaster Sir David Attenborough has become a patron of a group seeking to cut the growth in human population. On joining the Optimum Population Trust, Sir David said growth in human numbers was "frightening". Sir David has been increasingly vocal about the need to reduce the number of people on Earth to protect wildlife. The Trust, which accuses governments and green groups of observing a taboo on the topic, say they are delighted to have Sir David as a patron. JohnRich 4 #5 April 14, 2009 Quotethe Optimum Population Trust http://www.optimumpopulation.org/opt.policies.html So they want to "encourage" couples to have no more than two children. That's already not working. And they want to limit immigration into already overpopulated countries. That's politically incorrect. It ain't gonna happen. What then? Punish people who have more than two children? Close the borders to all immigration?
riddler 0 #6 April 14, 2009 QuoteSo they want to "encourage" couples to have no more than two children. That's already not working. It works pretty well in the US. We've managed to make it finacially and socially inconvenient to have more than two children, and as a result have a very small population growth. Of course, 500,000 american men have vasectomies each year, paid for mostly by health insurance, and pharmaceutical birth control is inexpensive and very popular here with women. Most of the world's population growth occurs in countries that don't have such easy and affordable access to birth control, either for religious or financial reasons.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. At least here in the U.S., there must not be a population problem. We've almost stabilized our population. >According to the libs, we don't even have enough legal citizens to fill the jobs here. Oh, we have plenty of legal citizens! They just don't want those jobs, and would prefer that someone else do them.
chuckakers 426 #9 April 15, 2009 Quote Oh, we have plenty of legal citizens! They just don't want those jobs, and would prefer that someone else do them. Oh really? Is that why when ICE cleaned out a boatload of illegals at a chicken processing plant there was a line of applicants around the building the next day? Legal applicants, by the way. Many of them natural born citizens. A truer statement is "They just don't want those jobs at that wage". Many under the table jobs are grossly underpaid because they are filled by illegals. Why doesn't the left whine about that little chunk of injustice??Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
billvon 3,108 #10 April 15, 2009 >A truer statement is "They just don't want those jobs at that wage." Fair enough. >Many under the table jobs are grossly underpaid because they are filled >by illegals. Those same jobs are "grossly underpaid" (i.e paid whatever the market will accept) when citizens do them too, so no, that's not the sole cause. However, illegal aliens will certainly work for lower wages since they are more risky to hire - and that brings the average wage down. >Why doesn't the left whine about that little chunk of injustice? Why would they need to when you are doing such an excellent job whining?
Ugali 0 #11 April 15, 2009 there is a theory that the population of the earth will decrease when the baby boomer generation 1946-1965(the largest generation on earth) will die. dont know about the validity of it though considering the amount of people born since then. could make sir david happy Tom, Tom Tom, Tommy, Tom Love
