Andy9o8 2 #2 April 1, 2009 I think most judges would say that as long as they don't demand entry into your residence, it probably doesn't constitute a search requiring a warrant.
TrophyHusband 0 #3 April 1, 2009 what about the demand to see the papers? can they stand on your doorstep and demand that you bring papers out to them or face fines? i would hope that one could just say no and ask the person to leave, but would they then be inviting further scrutiny? judging by the lack of responses to this, i'm thinking i may be over-reacting a little, but i just don't think we should tolerate door to door checks to see if our papers are in order, even if its just dog papers. warpedskydiver 0 #5 April 1, 2009 I would tell them to ask my dog for his papers. Then I would hurry up and get a tarp and a shovel.

shropshire 0 #7 April 1, 2009 We did away with dog licenses in the late 80's (?) in the U.K - but I seem to remember that some 'Guarding' breeds may need to be registered (We have a Dangerous Dogs Act - I'd need to google the details). So, is your Dog License thing a State or Country wide deal? Do you have to register all dogs/pups? (.)Y(.) Grey area. If the ordinance is constitutional (and it probably is), then the municipality has the right to enforce it - by reasonable means. I'd think that if they know you have a dog, then asking you to produce license papers within "x" number of days ought to suffice; but I'd really have to see the exact language of the ordinance to give a more detailed opinion. TrophyHusband 0 #10 April 1, 2009 each municipality has its own rules. i've only heard of cities requiring dog licences, but i'm sure there are some counties somewhere that require them. in this case, its the county humane society going around to the cities within the county enforcing this. TrophyHusband 0 #11 April 1, 2009 the article makes it sound as if they are going to every house in town that wasn't on the list, but i'm wondering if they are only knocking on doors where there are signs of dogs living there. kinda makes it even more of a gray area, but its still kind of like pulling someone over to check to see if they have a driver's license. The county has a computer data base of registered dogs and address's. One Jump Wonder
