Displaying a Ron Paul bumper sticker may make you a terrorist militia suspect ...

... in Missouri.

Missouri report on militias, terrorists draws criticism
“A new document meant to help Missouri law enforcement agencies identify militia members or domestic terrorists has drawn criticism for some of the warning signs mentioned.

“The Feb. 20 report called ‘The Modern Militia Movement’ mentions such red flags as political bumper stickers for third-party candidates, such as U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, who ran for president last year; talk of conspiracy theories, such as the plan for a superhighway linking Canada to Mexico; and possession of subversive literature.

“… But state law enforcement officials said the report is being misinterpreted. Lt. John Hotz of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the report comes from publicly available, trend data on militias. It was compiled by the Missouri Information Analysis Center, a ‘fusion center’ in Jefferson City that combines resources from the federal Department of Homeland Security and other agencies. The center, which opened in 2005, was set up to collect local intelligence to better combat terrorism and other criminal activity, he said.”

Original leaked docs from the Missouri Information Analysis Center (State homeland security) and Missouri State Highway patrol.

Among the indicators of militia affiliation, the intelligence analysis report asserts,
“Militia members most commonly associate with 3rd party politics groups. It is not uncommon for militia members to display Constitutional Party, Campaign for Liberty, or Libertarian material. These members are usually supporters of former Presidential Candidate: Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin, and Bob Barr.” (top of page 7)
On page 7 one can observe the Gadsen flag, i.e., [Quade]’s avatar, as one example of a “militia symbol.”

Multiple levels of anlytical criticism. First, that passes as domestic law enforcement intelligence. Sigh. There are lots of real reasons to be concerned about right-wing, anti-government Neo-Nazi/supremist groups, Ron Paul is not among those.

From William Krar and his improvised chemical munitions to James G. Cummings, who was found to have “radiological dispersal device components and literature, and radioactive materials,” i.e., making of a radiological dispersive device (RDD) or dirty bomb, in his Belfast, Maine home along with “a collection of Nazi memorabilia around the house, including a prominently displayed flag with swastika.” There are real independent loons (“lone wolfs”) and organized anti-government militias that may or may not represent real domestic security threats. The message of the report is stigmatizing Libertarians as “right wing extremists.”

Secondly, strawmen distracters do not benefit US domestic security interests. Pages 2-6 have valid information; the validity of the overall information is discredited due to the assertions on page 7.

Third, hypothetically, one should be able to stick an “I [heart] Usuma bin Laden,” “I support the KKK,” “I [heart] abortion doctor killers” or “God hates fags” bumper sticker on one’s vehicle, imo. I hope people wouldn’t.

Or symbol from the flag of one of our country's revolutionary war heros. ;)

WTF? Should I now expect to be visited by the "anti-terrorist" nut jobs because I actually like a little bit of symbolism from the "good" part of US history?

Or those who read it and actually understand what the underlying problem is, not just the displaying of some sticker or flag. It also helps to be able to recognize the difference.

Just like how a cop can tell the difference from a group of HOG riders and a pack of Bandidos. They both have motorcycles. They both have leather and patches on their leathers. Gee, those stupid cops surely can't tell the difference, huh Paul?;)

It would never occur to me that a freeway from, say, Winnipeg to El Paso would be deemed "subversive". The way some people think.... :S

And we see the court exchange as follows:

Q:"And why did you choose to pull him over?"
A: "His vehicle had a personalized license plate that read, '4TH AMEND.' We have received instruction and intel that neonazis view a next step after the 3rd Reich. Instead of 4th Reich they call it the 4th amendment."

Q: "So what did you do next?"
A: "I ran his plate and came up with a name. He had no priors. I googled him and found out that he has written a letter to the editor of the local newspaper . He is also a registered libertarian."

Q: "So why is that significant?"
A: "Because of the domestic security threat. So I pulled him over."

Q: "What did you find?"
A: "An initial search of his vehicle revealed a handgun in a locked gun safe in his trunk. He produced a concealed weapon permit, but all of these factors led me to take him into custody under suspicion of attempt to commit domestic terrorism."

Q: "Did the defendat say anything?"
A: "Exactly what you'd expect a terrorist militia member to say. He said, 'I request legal counsel.' And at that point I was certain that good police work had just saved thousands of lives,"

Had we known that the I-5 would connect Canada to Mexico the American public would not have supported it, Andy.

Look on a map. It is exactly what it does.

I'm hoping my sarcasm meter is off today.

Are you serious?

I am highly sarcastiv with this.

I have mentioned time and again how I can make the most ridiculous and sarcastic statement in defiance of all reason and people will think oi am serious.

I don't blame you at all, Dan. I don't blame you because there is a significant and loud portion of the population who believes utter crap.

It is not beyond belief that someone will actually believe shit like what I wrote - even with an effort to be as ridiculous as possible.

Wasn't implying all cops are stupid, but you have to admit some are.
