The reason for this is that one may make a very cogent and Catholic argument in favor of the death penalty. I've no moral issue with the death penalty, rather I am against its use for fiscal reasons. We can't afford it. With regards to its morality, those in opposition rarely wish to discuss why they disagree with St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas. Aquinas in particular and his objections and counters are quite well put. In fact, I can't recall anyone willing to discuss their opposition to the death penalty in context of their disagreement with either of those two doctors of the Church with regards to the death penalty - if they're of the opinion that it's morally unjustifiable, that is. They emulate democrats (except for Jeanne) talking about their support for racial discrimination - they run like cowards because they lack the courage to face facts.
