peregrinerose 0 #1 March 12, 2009 The subject says it all. I have a beautiful never used hunting rifle I need to sell, as my husband just lost his job and we need the cash. Any of you authorities on here know how to legally sell it private party in PA? Gun shop offered less than 1/2 what the gun is worth and flat out told us to sell it privately. mnealtx 0 #2 March 12, 2009 To the best of my knowledge, there is no instant-check requirement for a person-to-person sale in PA. However, I'm sure your friendly neighborhood gun shop would be happy to do a NICS check on the prospective buyer for a small fee, if needed for your peace of mind. I'd also recommend doing a bill of sale with a copy of the person's DL as well as the serial number of the rifle.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. peregrinerose 0 #3 March 12, 2009 How about advertising it? I haven't belonged to a gun club in 2 years (shoot out my own back door if I want to now Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
mnealtx 0 #4 March 12, 2009 Honestly? My first choice would be putting a flyer up at the gun club. Failing that, an ad in the local paper, or take it to a gunshow.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
AggieDave 6 #5 March 12, 2009 Gunbroker.com is a decent place to start. They have FAQs that will help answer your questions too.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
BartsDaddy 7 #6 March 12, 2009 What is it? I might buy it from you. Handguns are only used to fight your way to a good rifle
peregrinerose 0 #7 March 12, 2009 It's an absolutely gorgeous Remmington Model Seven CDL 7mm-08. Blued with a Walnut stock. I just got it, haven't even fired it yet. They run about $900 new. My husband lost his job Monday, so it needs to get sold and money in my bank account... as much as I'd love to keep it, my hunting plans are going to be on hold for a long time. JohnRich 4 #8 March 12, 2009 State laws: http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/PASL.pdf Not a problem for you. Look for a gun show. You can rent a table, or just walk around with the gun slung over your shoulder with a "For Sale" sign hanging from it. Gunbroker.com is a great way to do it online, with a large audience to drive up the auction bids. See if the local paper will accept an advertisement. Many will refuse, even though the transaction is perfectly legal, because they discriminate against gun owners.

skiskyrock 0 #11 March 17, 2009 Sorry to hear you have to sell. There is a huge gun show in the Harrisburg farm show building this weekend (Mar 21). Pay the admission and ust walk the aisles with a for sale sign on the gun. You'll get offers from the dealers at the tables and from other people walking around. PA allows person to person sales of long guns with no paperwork required.
steve1 5 #12 March 17, 2009 I bought my wife a model 7 Remington about thirty years ago in 243. Later my daughters used it. I'm not sure how many deer and antelope that gun shot, but it was a bunch. 7MM/08 is a great cartridge. Too bad you have to sell it. These are really hard times for a lot of folks.
