hcsvader 1 #1 March 12, 2009 http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1883598,00.html The case of the pregnant 9-year-old was shocking enough. But it was the response of the Catholic Church that infuriated many Brazilians. Archibishop Jose Cardoso Sobrinho of the coastal city of Recife announced that the Vatican was excommunicating the family of a local girl who had been raped and impregnated with twins by her stepfather, because they had chosen to have the girl undergo an abortion. The Church excommunicated the doctors who performed the procedure as well. "God's laws," said the archbishop, dictate that abortion is a sin and that transgressors are no longer welcome in the Roman Catholic Church. "They took the life of an innocent," Sobrinho told TIME in a telephone interview. "Abortion is much more serious than killing an adult. An adult may or may not be an innocent, but an unborn child is most definitely innocent. Taking that life cannot be ignored." So the girl, her mother and the doctor have all been excommunicated. Yet her stepfather is still welcomed as a member of the church... I dont even know what to say about something that fucked upHave you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:)

Andrewwhyte 1 #10 March 12, 2009 QuoteThis has nothing to do with God and everything to do with the Catholic Church and all it's bullshit. I love it when other Christians gnash their teeth over the catholic church. If you don't count the Catholics, Christianity is little more than a minor cult. The majority of Christians alive today and the overwhelming majority of Christians who have ever lived have been Catholics. ALL Christians up until the sixteenth century were Catholics, but you guys stand there and proclaim that the belief structure from the time of your holy messiah until then was a croc of shit, but now you know the truth. What a joke. Are you the Peoples Front of Judea? FUCK OFF! We're the Peoples Popular Front of Judea.

Yes...technically I am still Catholic I guess. They can't decide what to do...first it's "you'll be excommunicated! and anathamatized" Then you say, "Well I denounce the Catholic Church anyway." Then they say "no, you were baptised and are a Catholic for life...."As for the rest of the crap you spew...you know nothing of the situation nor my beliefs and I have nothing to do with you nor you with I....blue skies.Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are... wmw999 2,589 #14 March 12, 2009 Note they didn't excommunicate the girl. Just the mother and doctors. And yes, the stepfather can stay as a church member, because while what he did was wrong, it wasn't as wrong as killing innocent fetuses. The whole "two wrongs don't make a right" thing. It's an awful decision. And much of (catholic) Brazil disagrees with it completely. But it appears to be consistent with right-wing catholic theology. He didn't even say he personally exercised any judgment; he just said that the actions called for automatic excommunication. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. steve1 5 #19 March 16, 2009 It isn't just Catholics that do this sort of thing. A buddy of mine was Morman. He was excommunicated when he was a teenager. (Maybe this shows the type of kids I ran around with.) Another friend of mine was pretty high up in the Morman Church. He said he was one of the good old boys who ex-communicated a guy for cheating on his wife. At any rate, I think there is plenty of B.S. in the other faiths also. Did I mention I was raised as a Catholic before I became an Athiest. I even went to a private Catholic school for a time....
