So U2 has relocated its business entity to the Netherlands to capitalize on a lower tax rate. For that, they are alleged to be bad.

I say, "Good on them." Let them keep their money - or as much as possible.

How do you feel about the 50,000 wealthy Americans who stashed their cash in secret Swiss bank accounts?
If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

They need only make friends with the Obama cabinet and all will be forgiven........

But, I do agree with you:)

Good for them too.

If you support Obama and his cabinet you have little you can honestly say against this.

Yes, good on them.

Didn't the Beatles (or some other band(s)) move their operation to the US at one time for the same reason?

Yep. Lennon came here for tax reasons. He made a lot of money singing about communism. But hed be damned if he was gonna pay high taxes.

But in the end, moving here turned out pretty bad for him.[:/]

He'll never make that mistake again.

There is a big difference between choosing to earn your future earnings in a lower tax environment, and choosing to remain and and then hiding your income.

The same way I feel about any person seeking to protect his or her property. Why is government taking the money such a moral good thing. "Taking someone else's money" is, as a rule, bad. Anyone else does it and it's called "larceny." RICO covers organizations that do it.

The Americans who stashed their cash in secret Swiss accounts - also know as hiding that income - if they did it to avoid reporting that income to the IRS, were committing the Federal crime of income tax evasion. Now, whether that ought to be a crime is a separate issue to take up with Congress. But until such time the law is repealed, that conduct is a crime. And that, like it or not, is what makes it the government's business. Don't like that? - tell Congress to change the law.

Relocating oneself to another jurisdiction so as to fall within the jurisdiction of its tax laws is not a crime; businesses do it all the time, and of course it's perfectly legal (at least in the US it is).

What about the poor Irish government? It's not booming there like it used to. And the dollars (pounds?) he doesn't pay is money the rest of the people have to make up for.
