jcd11235 0 #26 March 1, 2009 QuoteI too believe in JFK's philosophy of 'Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country'. This philosophy should apply to the president also which is my point in regard to President Obama. It does apply. He is trying to do good for the country. I can't blame him because so many people have been brainwashed with Cold War propaganda so as to actually believe the BS about this country being founded on capitalist ideals. Even if Obama is a socialist, though there's no significant evidence supporting such an assertion, there is nothing inherently anti-American about socialism. QuoteOur president is a radical socialist. Based on what evidence? Has he nationalized the auto industry? Has he taken over the Microsoft offices in Redmond? Did he have your vehicle confiscated to reduce fuel demand and cut down on emissions? It seems apparent that you have no concept of what radical socialism really is. We certainly have not seen it from President Obama, despite what all the tin-foil hatters on the right would have us believe.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! OH YES.. and not expect those other countries to look, smell, feel, taste and act like this one when they do Ive spent roughly 10% of my life outside the country, and the fact that the shit i experienced while abroad which made me appreciate being in the USA so much is actually starting to happen here scares the living shit out of me. "Or perhaps the unthinkable...spending less! " EXACTLY! Cant the government take some of its own advice? look what corporate america and the citizens are doing right now- cutting back. The current administration is calling for america to be fiscally conservative while spending at a reckless rate, what the fuck? CUT IT OUT! Youre in debt, dont get in deeper debt! sometimes yeah, you gotta spend money to make money but jesus is this hypocritical and ridiculous! So there I was... StreetScooby 5 #29 March 1, 2009 I lived in Edinburgh for two years, and my wife is English. She's from a small village outside of Huddersfield. We no longer have "Council Houses" over here, where you literally have generations living on the dole, teaching their children that's a preferred way of life, and the state sanctions it. IMO, that's obscene. Clinton eliminated that, yet Obama is about to bring it back. I personally do not know of any American President who has gone on national television to absolutely disparage business and banks. Obama continues to do so. That's not American. The problem we're both facing is it's considered vulgar to be proud to be American or British. Our cultures should be celebrated, and vigorously so. Come to America, learn to be American. shropshire 0 #35 March 1, 2009 That's true ... but it's also a very broad brush. We travel abroad and experience a [very] small part of a culture and draw conclusion from those (someone earlier said that British food is crap, for example, which is clearly nonsense) but that only scratches the surface and mostly likely does not coincide with other peoples experiences. For example, I go to a city and walk down a street and don't get mugged - I think the place is safe... my mate walks down the same street and does get mugged - fuck this is a dangerous place Tone, you don't want to go there.... rhys 0 #46 March 2, 2009 The right wingers in here really have proved theemselves as narrow minded, instant gratification, un educated, brainwashed idiots. They way you lot are carrying on you think you are going to be forced into driving Ladas, collecting food tickets, and waving a red flag. Capitalism is nice if you are on the recieving end but it is the apitimy of uneven distribution of wealth. Socialism is the balance that makes capitalism work for everyone. Without the combination of the two there would be massive corporations with no small businesses, and wporkers would all be paid minimum wage or replaced by machines for maximum profit... capitalism is the reason the current governments 'ALL AROUND THE WORLD' are currently handing out cash to keep thier economies afloat. Obama does not want to go into debt as many of you will strongly believe, he wants your economy and commercial industry to stay afloat and avoid the invitable depression that will occur if nothing is done. Blame your own republican party for soaking up all the cash (in thier personal bank accounts, capatilism, fuck yeah) and putting not only America but the entire world in this shithouse situation. Give the guy (Obama) a go, which means a fair go, back your leader. If you have ever played sports, imagine the USA is the team and obama is the coach. Things will be different for a while but if you don't embrace the change, the game plan will be lost and you will not make the quarter finals. If the Republicans were elected, IMHO the USA would most likely have become dangerously close to being invaded, fortunately common sense prevailed and the world has given the USA a second chance. Contrary to what many Americans believe, the USA was 'Hated' for the past few years the world around. Now we all have hope for not only the USA but the entire world and it's stability. Many of you don't realise how much you should be thankful for, just for that situation alone. Go with it, back your leader and you might be pleasantly surprised at how your lifestyle may become.
