The War on Drugs

It's quiet easy to just say 'legalize it' but, there are ramifications that have to be considered and not just appeasing the want or need of a portion of our society.

The sensible reasons for legalising currently illegal drugs has nothing to do with 'appeasing the want or need'.

'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'

What is the point of this war? What does it achieve?

At the moment, I think it's economic stimulus :S:P. After all, it employs a ton of guards and law enforcement personnel, along with the construction folks to build new prisons.

Think of what it would do to unemployment numbers to get rid of all that :S

A valid reason why drugs are illegal. And it's insane.

'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'

No, it's not the 'sole' reason... just one of many. The way I feel about the 'war on drugs' is, double or triple our Border Patrol Agents or bring in the National Guard (when they get out of Iraq) and put them on our Southwest border and let them shoot back! The drug runners can shoot at us but, we can't shoot back! What the hell kind of 'war' is that? The way it's being handled is one of the biggest jokes going. War on drugs my butt!

I can understand what you are saying but, cigarettes and booze are legal and taxed, quite highly. Yet, both are still stolen and sold in this country on the 'balck market'. The reason... to avoid the tax. Do you suppose, that even if all your favorite drugs were legal that it would really stop the criminal element? It appears, we are in a bit of a 'Catch-22"

Nope, former DEA agents and vice can be used to as tax agents.

They wouldn't even have to change the DEA's name. :P

Oh, o.k.! Then, why don't they? Smokes and booze are still, 'black marketed'! :P

Simple. This attitude.

"Why are you wasting time on illegal sales of legal items when it could be spent on the illegal ones?"

Besides, there would probably always be a black market for drugs. The main goal of the agency would be to limit it and tax as much as possible. :)

O.K., that's just what I said earlier. No matter what you do, there will always be a criminal element involved.

True, but they wouldn't have near the monopoly most have now.

The biggest orgs you could possibly convince to go "legit" too. :)
