Another Democrat with "Some Tax Issues"

Recommended Posts

Ahhhh, this just in from the ".....new age of responsibility and transparency in goverment" department.

So, someone tell me - how do you miss this for several years and then figure it out right before the confirmation hearings? Bull shit. We should all be insulted that he thinks we're such dumbasses.

And how, as the great hope, do you let this go? Uuhhhgain? Shouldn't Obama just PICK SOMEONE ELSE NOW?

He won't, because he cut his teeth on crooked Chicago style politics, and the responsibility and transparency bullshit was all campaign rhetoric.
The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

But the White House says he discovered the error during preparation for his confirmation and filed amended tax returns with the proper payment and interest.

So, he brought it up, and he took care of it, including interest.

What are you more mad about, that your guy isn't in office anymore, or you couldn't afford to pay off a >100k$ self-induced IRS goof? ;)

+1

This is just the beginning...Chicago being the political cesspool that it is and has been for decades, what exactly did we expect?? It takes a village, remember??

Now, go back and read the article in a bit more depth, and then look at the questions I posed.

When you originally said:

Perhaps when you're getting appointed to a higher position, you have someone dig back through taxes, dealings, whatever, to find any issues such that you can resolve them so the public doesn't get pissed at you.

So, (1) just because he resolved this before this before the confirmation hearings doesn't mean he was "hiding it away" as you ASSume, and (2) it was for a service provided by a friend, not like he was scamming $100k's from the public or some incredibly shady dealing.

Great post genius. We'll just assume you've been drinking.

Perhaps it is you that should "batten down the tard-hatch"? ;)

Well, at least you gave it a try this time.

Sec. of Health and Human Services is higher than US Senator? Ok. And you seriously believe he doesn't know how to report his income and gifts after being a US Senator for almost 20 years? Ok.

Go back to drinkin yer tard-aid.
The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Well, you're leaving out the salient details. Per his account, in June he thought - "wow, maybe that was taxable income." But it wasn't until Jan 2nd, well after he knew he was going to be nominated for a post, that he amended 3 years of returns and paid the money.

That said, maybe he gets a tiny brownie point for doing this before the news about the SecTreas came out. But it still appears that Democrat Senators don't have to pay back taxes until they get a Cabinet position.

Unpaid taxes represent a decent chunk of our deficit, but the new Administration will not be presenting a good example.

And so another automatic yes vote and another tax cheat cabinet member....

It seems that the only people who are getting caught with "irregularities" are the ones being scrutinized. Anyone think that the rest of Congress would come up clean? Where's Larry Flynt when you need him?:D
The tax code is long, complicated and full of holes. It's that way because politically connected folks like things to get lost in it. Some people seem to believe (and correctly at times) that they can get away with this sort of stuff. Some people pay other people quite a bit of money to find ways to use the tax code to their advantage. I don't know why members of Congress think they can get away with it. But I also don't know how many members of Congress actually do their own taxes, or even do much more than sign on the line that says that they swear it's correct.
I think we should audit all of our Congress critters. Right now, we need the money.

You points are all valid and good. what bugs the hell out of me is the different way they are being reported on and treated. If there were Bush nominations do you think we would be getting the "oh but, he is the most qualified" bull shit?[:/]

I will let you answer that one.

One thing is for sure, with the way everything is saved, these nominations problems and the way they are being handled will come back......

if we falter and lose our freedoms,
it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

A limo and driver are a GIFT. GIFTS are taxable income. Everybody with three or more brain cells knows that.
If Tom Daschle honestly can't figure that out, then Leo Hindery is seriously fucking up by paying him $1 million annually for his consulting services.

Actually, this is the perfect guy to try and sell us all on why we should socialize health care. The Feds are honest and they do a great job of everything.

There's probably more than you think, both Democrat and Republican. What bugs me is - once again - the messiah syndrome. How can Obama keep getting a pass on this stuff?

True, it could mean that he is incredibly inept, as you must ASSume.

Ahh, he WAS scamming it from the public. Many of us call it TAX EVASION.

Are you giving him a pass here and now in this public forum? No. Do I expect you to give him a pass in the voting booth in the 2010 Congressional elections? No. Should we expect FoxNews and the Wall Street Journal to give him a pass? No. Don't underestimate your own power as a citizen. We're a democratic republic, and public forums like this are one of the ways that We The People act as the ultimate employers of our government.

Snively whiny righties, whinging about a minor tax issue, aka, a molehill, being made into a mountain by their favorite propaganda outlet.

Why don't you all go volunteer to pack up some goods to ship to the soldiers in Iraq? At least you all would be doing something that mattered. Reading and believing Faux News isn't a productive use of time.
You all know that they (Faux) went all the way to Supreme Court to ensure that they could lie, don't you? Why would you believe anything from Faux? Complete cluelessness is the only explanation I can think of.

$130,000, the 4 year gross for the average American, is not a minor tax issue. Esp from the party that is supposed to be for the people. And esp since any sort of fiscal responsibility by Obama will mean higher taxes as soon as the economy recovers....2011?

As opposed to pandering to those who have no values, evidently.
