I'm still considering getting her some sort of .22 for inexpensive plinking.

Like the Kimber .22 1911 conversion kit? Then your well tuned 1911 would be shot up all the time.:)

Hell, I've looked at getting that for ME!!!! B|

Actually, was thinking of getting a 22 revolver of some sort for her. Same manual of arms and cheaper shooting costs.

I have all that I need for the forseeable future in all calibers I shoot.

We've been buying bricks of 9mm each month and now that I have a new .223 AR to go with the 9mm AR and a new .38 airlight S&W for the wifes conceal gun we have more ammo to stock up on

At least prices haven't gone through the roof yet for the ammo.

Just wait until they try to put serial numbers on them. You better buy them now

Quote

Can you believe that they were out of ammo? And they informed me that everyone else in town is out of ammo too. I called my local gun range. They said that they only have 10 boxes of 50 rounds left. It seems that folks are stockpiling because of the new president.

Quote

It'll take the Obama gang a few weeks/months to push through any punitive tax on ammunition (I hope). We'll have time to stock up, I think. In the meantime, the price of brass, lead, etc. on the world market has taken a nose dive. or , depending on your world view.

I wish you could all realise how fucked up you all sound to those that have never had guns in their lives! you all watch too many movies!

I just wish the Democrats would admit that my guns do not cause their crime.

But the one you got bored with last year might do, and the 10 that your mate sold to get his quiver of automatics and the church's horde that they have invested in might end up in the wrong hands too.

I don't consider myself fucked up or insane at all. And personally, I take offense to your insinuations. >:( Up until a few months ago, *I* had never owned a gun either.

I'm not some homicidal maniac, looking to shoot someone. I just want some ammo to target shoot at a range. What point is there in owning something you can't use?

You started skydiving. You bought gear for yourself, right? And the need/desire to have more and more gear can sometimes be overwhelming. But what if one day, you couldn't acquire the gear that you wanted/needed. You would complain and gripe to anyone who would listen to you. And eventually, you just gave up trying to find what you wanted/needed and quit skydiving. And if you quit skydiving, would you keep your gear?

Let's say that you own some tiny little elliptical canopy. Fine for you, but what about that 50 jump newbie who managed to "get their hands on it?" And jumped it. And died from some stupid mistake. Is that YOUR fault for selling it?

Hell! I took offense to his comments too! I thought she handled it quite well. I get a kick out of some folks. They get all involved in model airplanes, skydiving, rock-climbing and etc. but, someone who really gets into guns is fucked-up and insane? It's not like we're talking about slaughtering people or something... we just appreciate guns! So, what's the deal?:D

You were talking about a .22. I've always thought a Ruger 9-shot, single action was a good little pistol.
I'm more preferential to rifles and bought a Henry .22 long-rifle, lever action. My favorite pistol is my S&W Model-66, .357... it's always with me. ;)

What kind of .357?
If it's a S&W (or Rossi or Taurus), S&W made a really nice K-frame .22.

Not just the same manual of arms, but the exact same frame, grips, cylinder latch, all that.

I tried to pick up some bullets and powder this weekend, and couldn't find what I needed. The price of powder is going sky high.

I noticed the same thing over Christmas. I wonder if this is all over Obama taking office.

I think the state of the economy is driving a lot of this. If things get to be dog eat dog, a firearm and ammo would be a good thing to have. The "have nots" aren't going to sit back and starve. Others are going to defend what they have.

I'm not saying that is what is happening now, but some people think so. I do have a gloomy outlook though. Some day this may be the case.....

It's a Ruger.

Ok, not sure if there is an identical version in .22. Depends on what 357 she has. The Bearcat is real cool, so is the Single Six 22 (very similar IIRC)

Even .22s have gone through the roof. It's now $22 for a bulk pack of 525 around here. But there is stuff in stock.

Interesting that all of the military semi-autos are gone, and so are the old surplus bolt-actions (Enfields, Mosin-Nagants and such)

Blah Blah Blah..... LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU....... there might be an evil black gun...its coming to get you..:ph34r::ph34r:

DUDE... going out to the range and killing some paper is fun....braggin rights to how good a shot you are is very rewarding( although the range operators really hate the .44 magnum headshots out at 75ft..the local cops train there too.)

I kill paper with my compound bow too....

Its part of our culture and unfortunately we do have some morons who misuse these devices and I would rather be prepared for them than be a helpless victim.

I also hunt... I am not afraid to get my own food.. within the proper season and in the proper place. We have set ourselves up as the primapry predator in most of this country. We have taken away the habitat that many of the large browsing animals must use for winter range and the food there is no longer there. When there is a hard winter many thousands of deek and elk starve to death is some area's because there are not enough competent hunters to thin the herds adequately. I would rather kill them with one quick shot to the head.. than to let them suffer for several months and die from starvation.

You have no idea how fucked up it sounds to us that you would actually choose to live someplace where you could not protect yourself from those who wish to do you harm. Life is not an idyllic fantasy land.

There was a report on the local news last week that home burglaries have gone WAY up in the last few months in a city right next to me. So the city police (in the city I live in) are teaming up with them and the Sheriff's department to try and combat the problem.

As prices of everything continue to go up, I have no doubt that the number of burglaries will too. [:/]

I wouldn't really want to shoot someone, but if it came down to me or them? I'll do what I have to. B|

You sound just like the whuffo who thinks skydiving is stupid.

And since you have never owned a firearm, your opinion of firearms is just like how we look at them. You are ignorant of the topic, your opinion is noted, and then dismissed just as we all ignore the ranting whuffo.

You don't like guns.... Got it. Good thing is none of us want you to HAVE to have one.

What makes you think you are the only one who's opinion should matter?
What danger is the legal ownership of a firearm?

You are nothing more than a ranting whuffo here.

Calling a group of people a name is not a personal attack no matter how personally an individual might take that.

Calling a single person a name is, by definition, a personal attack and against the rules of the web site.

Omaba isn't directly responsible at all.

He does however scare some pro-gun types that believe he will sign legislation that hasn't even been introduced yet. Some of this is people being cautious and some of this is just being hyped by the people that sell stuff. Fear is a GREAT motivator for selling stuff. Always has been.

Omaba?

And you're wrong about anti-gun legislation not being introduced yet: Bill HR 45

Under this proposal, anyone who currently owns a handgun or semi-auto rifle who does not submit personal info and pass a test to receive a firearms license, becomes a criminal. Just for owning what they've always owned, even though they haven't done anything wrong. Fail to notify the Feds when you move to a new address - criminal! Fail to renew your license - criminal! With of course, a knock on the door by the police to confiscate your now illegally held unlicensed firearms...

...................................................................
You took this entirely out of context. Go back and read the rest of my message.

I'm not blaming all this on Obama.

What I said was just the opposite. The huge down turn in our economy could signal even worse things to come. Many people think that they may need to defend what they own, if things get chaotic enough.

I knew people thirty years ago who were starting to stockpile ammo and weapons for that day. This is not a new idea. I just think that people are thinking of what could happen, and they are preparing for the worst.

No, I'm not personally a doomsday advocate, but I also don't see anything wrong with being prepared for the future. Perhaps we have never known a time like this in our life time, but that doesn't mean it will never happen.

My brother, relied on government and police to keep him safe during the L. A. riots. Guess what, it didn't work. He found out there was noone then who would even show up when he called for help.

In New Orleans, I knew people who had guns to protect their home, and family from looters. Other houses were being ravaged by thugs. People with guns were able to protect what they owned. Don't tell me this can't work.

I'm not an ultra right winger. I even voted for Obama. I'm just thinking about what the future will hold.....
