billvon 3,112 #12 January 9, 2009 >1 - if it gets warmer, it's due to man made global warming >2 - if it gets colder, it's due to man made global warming No no, you've got that all backwards. If it gets colder, then THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS GLOBAL WARMING. Anyone who thinks it is is a fool. The climate changes naturally all the time. If it stays the same, then well, duh. The climate naturally stays in equilibrium. Only the Chicken Little types think that it's changing in either direction. If it gets warmer, well, of course there's global warming; anyone with half a brain can see that it's getting warmer. But only a fool thinks that man has anything to do with it. It's all NATURAL. Get on the ball, man! It's supposed to hit 85 this weekend here. Get your ducks in a row so you'll know who to mock come Monday, lest you be banished to some less-abrasive forum. Amazon 7 #16 January 9, 2009 Well right now we are having the second 500 year flood in this area since I bought my house. There have also been several 100 year floods.. in the last 10 yearsDamn good thing I bought this house up in the hills and away from water courses It does not take a genius.. that if you make the water warmer by a degree or so.. there is more evaporation of water into the atmosphere. Since 3/4 of this planet is covered in water all that moisture laden air that is pouring in off the Not So Pacific Ocean... looses all that water due to orographic effect. I happen to live on some of that rise.. so voila.. MORE RAIN.. and 2 weeks ago.. all that moisture was falling into a little bit colder air mass coming from the north and east.. and over 2 ft of snow in my yard.. That is more than has ever been there since I moved here.. Made for a very pretty white Christmas.. but when this warm moisture laden air mass supplanted it... all of this rain ( 13.45" at Stevens Pass) fell on all the snow and melted it as well.. voila... FLOODS. Its the perfect storm for flooding... building collapses from very heavy snow soaked with water.. mudslides.. landslides... Fun stuff..
speedy 0 #17 January 9, 2009 Hey don't forget, it's "Global" and not about local weather in the U.S. ! Europe is also having a local weather problem, it's damn cold here too! Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
masterrig 1 #18 January 9, 2009 I've been hearing that your area has been getting a lot of rain but, that looks just plain rough. All we've gotten in regard to reports of the 'mess' up there is verbal... no pictures. The pictures you posted looks much worse. We've got a creek that runs by our place (only during the rainy season) and like you, our place is up the mountain and out of danger. Right now, as dry as it is and with the high winds we get, our big fear is fire. I hope, it quits raining and y'all get some relief. Chuck
rushmc 23 #19 January 9, 2009 Damn that is beautiful country!! I too hope you get some relief from the rain soon. Floods suck big time. Amazon 7 #20 January 10, 2009 Well the water is going down.. I attached some more pics... I thought for sure Pilot Dudes bridge would be gone but damn its built tough.. just washed out at each end.. the planks stayed put.. but several logs that washed down the little stream turned raging river... nearly took it out.. he was out there with a saw breaking the jam up one log at a time. One of the reasons its like this is over 2 ft of snow that has melted the last few days with all the warm rain... before it all melted though it has wiped out all kinds of structures... The Valley pic is of a farm basically under water.. but the water is down about 10 ft from yesterday The closed road Tualco... is on hundreds of roads around here... only idots proceed past those signs.... in many cases the roads are washed out under the water.... and surprises happen when you drop in a hole you did not see under the water... where you thought a road was. All these are with a couple miles of my house... Me.. I live up on the hills

Amazon 7 #22 January 10, 2009 Luckily I can work from home.. otherwise I would have to drive about three times the normal 23 miles... Oh.. I attached this one finally.. its a metal quonset hut.. the snow got so heavy with the rain.. it collapsed it.. I was going to buy one of these.. but now.. No way... I watched the guy jack it up to get the tractor and his little TR-7 convertible out... the tractor only was bent a little.. and saved the TR

Amazon 7 #24 January 10, 2009 For now.. we are going back to more normal conditions...... but the last month.. shit... way outside the norm.. VERY VERY wet... this one was another record.. breaking the records from 2 years ago that were set... and the previous records from 1996.... I can dig records as much as the next person.. ( I even own a couple myself) but this shit.. is getting old.. I think they need to redefine what the hell a 500 year flood is...
