BIGUN 1,494 #26 January 2, 2009 Had to go back and revisit my own statement for edification... QuoteIn terms of pressure, there is a wide (very wide) gap between the 7.62 NATO and the .308 Winchester. Here at Surplusrifle.com, we recommend in the strongest possible terms that you do not fire factory .308 Winchester ammunition in any Mil-Surp rifle chambered for the 7.62 NATO round. Ron 10 #27 January 2, 2009 Shot one yesterday. It was a Nazi capture gun reworked by the Fins. Really nice wood work. Just for plinking???? Get a .22 But, they are pretty cheap. I can get one for about 70 bucks and have been thinking about getting one just to get one."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,
wolfriverjoe 1,523 #28 January 2, 2009 Quote Quote Ammo relatively cheap... http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Yugoslavian_1980_s_7.62x54R_182grn_FMJ.html I found what looked like some pretty good deals on Ammo for both the M91/30 (7.62x54R) and the Yugo SKS (7.62x39) on "Aimsurplus". http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/7_62x54R.html http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/7_62x39.html What can I expect from them? I know much surplus is corrosive and requires immediate cleaning of the weapon, but how about reliability? Now I've got to figure out why I can't have Ammo shipped to Yolo county CA. I've never dealt with these guys, but most of the big mail-order firms are ok. They have Federal firearms and ammunition licenses and all that goes with them. The Surplus ammo is ok. I haven't seen too many failure to fires with it. The really old WWI stuff can be unreliable, but I've never seen any that was dangerous, it just didn't work. Read the fine print-"Check your local laws before ordering". Some places have outlawed mail order ammo, parts, all sorts of gun stuff. Work (if allowed), friends, family, shooting ranges, maybe even a local gun dealer (porbably involve fees). Alternative addresses aren't all that hard. Just make sure you are in compliance with the law. You might not get caught, but if you do... It won't be good."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Just a big poof of smoke from the breech. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION!!! I wear glasses anyway and nothing was wrong with them or my face at all. If you do ever have a case rupture (on any ammo with any gun for that matter) Stop using the gun until the breech can be evaluated by a competent gunsmith for cracks. In my case the breech was fine both times.Muff #5048
