kallend 2,230 #3 December 23, 2008 Maybe they SHOULD be more proactive: Young Sisters Die, Mothers Whereabouts In Question Steve Miller Reporting CHICAGO (WBBM) 12/22/2008 -- New information about the mother of two children who were killed in a Southwest Side fire early this morning. A source who was at the scene tells Newsradio 780 that the 29-year-old mother had been out of the home since about 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon - that she had been at a pool hall in River Grove with her boyfriend. The source says the woman's 11-year-old son sent his mother a text message about 11 o'clock at night, saying the home was cold - and that she texted him back - that he should turn on a space heater. The source says it appeared a cord had caught fire. The 11-year-old survived, and so did his 7-year-old sister. The source says the 11-year-old was able to get the 7-year-old to a bathroom, where they opened a window to escape the smoke. Two children died - 6-year-old Perla Gonzalez and 9-year-old Karla Gonzalez. Chicago police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services are investigating. ... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
AggieDave 6 #4 December 23, 2008 I guess the tone of my message was lost in my previous post. I was saying that although the comic is funny, its not true since CPS has never been that proactive and I think they should be. Out of all the reports I've made of seriously bad and unsafe conditions children are living in (with hard core drug use, prostitution, drug sells, gang bangers, etc) I've never received anything but a really pleasant form letter saying "thank you for your concern, but we're not going to do anything about it right now." To say that I'm frustrated with their (CPS) lack of initiative would be an understatement. Its nearly as bad as MHMR releasing people on "no harm contracts" then having to talk knives out of people's hands later that day when they're trying to kill themselves.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
