virgin-burner 1 #1 December 16, 2008 just been to the knive shop the other day and saw this really neat kershaw, how good do they take abuse!? i think the steel was X15-something.. i used to be a spyderco-afficionado, but after weaponry-laws changed and having had a not so lucky meeting with the boys in blue, i had to put that down a little.. but that law changed once again a couple of days ago, so i might need another EDC..“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Andy9o8 2 #2 December 16, 2008 I find Cutco knives to be a fair workhorse for every-day usage or training, and I save money by sharpening my own. But for close-in combat under actual field conditions, nothing beats a genuine Bowie knife. http://www.harrisoncustomknives.com/collectorknives/9%20bowie%202.jpg

JackC 0 #4 December 16, 2008 I've used the same Kershaw for general purpose EDC for nearly 20 years. The bolsters are getting a bit scuffed now but the blade has held up well. It doesn't like to sharpen to a razor edge quite like some knifes do but it does hold it's edge well. Based on my experience, I'd buy another if I lost it. virgin-burner 1 #5 December 16, 2008 sounds pretty good! just looked up their website, cant seem to find the model, and also nothing that comes close to "X15-something" for the steel.. might be an older model. it has that speedsafe opening mechanism and the bolsters were made of grey-greenish synthetics. blade had a nicely rounded spine and looked a bit like one of the bigger veggie-knives you might use in the kitchen. about 1 inch wide and somewhere between 3-4 inches long. pretty mean machine, opens quick and smooth. oh, and for the bowie-knives, anyone know the mercworx-knives!? they cost a junk of money but look pretty solid..“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. JackC 0 #6 December 16, 2008 I've got one of the smaller speedsafe Kershaws, it's as sharp as they come but a bit flimsy for anything but light duties. The "safety" catch isn't particularly safe in my opinion either. Not an ideal EDC option unless you want to stab yourself in the balls when it opens in your pocket. I've carried a scallion (has a tip safety) for over two years now and never even came close to it coming open.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. JackC 0 #8 December 16, 2008 I can't remember the model (Chive maybe?), the smallest one anyway. I fell out with it after it tried to bite my giblets.

Odd - I've never had a problem with mine, either clipped in my pocket or loose. I *do*, however, make sure that the tip safety is completely engaged before I put it in my pocket.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. BIGUN 1,488 #14 December 16, 2008 See... For me, expensive knives are like expensive sunglasses... virgin-burner 1 #19 December 17, 2008 my work "gun-nut" brought in an emerson today to show me, tanto-blade, partially serrated, G-10 handle, all black. looks also pretty neat. i might really have to hit the knive-shop again today. there's also another one that has a "selection" he doesnt show to everyone.. man, what a fucked up day today.. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. I was going to say CRKT would be a solid choice. Then again, I'm a big Emerson fan, but those cost a little bit more than a CRKT. I carry a CRKT M16 LEO as my back up knife to my primary Emerson CQB7. I also have a Ka-Bar TDI LDK hidden behind my mag pouch as a weapon retention "device."--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
