Andy9o8 2 #2 December 5, 2008 Looks like it's more than just a single incident of just being "un-PC". You tweaks the bear's nose too many times, you gets bit. Full story: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3740267

I agree the guy's an idiot, but saying something about his ex's isn't newsworthy to begin with. Please don't dent the planet. Darius11 12 #7 December 5, 2008 Yea i with you on that one. Some other hockey player is banging his ex. And he tells the guys to enjoy his sloppy seconds. Immature yea, kind of douche baggy thing to say yea, but punished for saying it that I don’t get. It’s hockey the people who are on the ice have balls and BALLS make testosterone people. What do they expect for everyone to hug.Now I wish I watched that game. I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

JohnRich 4 #9 December 5, 2008 QuoteSean Avery suspended for "sloppy seconds"? Sloppy seconds don't seem so bad, when you see the former girlfriends to whom he was referring: Elisha Cuthbert: http://linuxreviews.org/software/x11-terms/aterm/elisha-cuthbert-3.jpg Rachel Hunter: http://www.bergproperties.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/rachel-hunter-si-shot.jpg Is there any guy here that wouldn't like to score a goal with them? Andrewwhyte 1 #10 December 5, 2008 The key here is that he went after the girlfriend of his opponent. This was a blatant violation of "the code." His own teammates have condemned him for this. The comments tend towards, " that kind of talk is ok on the ice, but not in public." It sounds like they don't want him back in the room. BTW his contract states (page 2, article 2 (e) he agrees "to conduct himself on and off the rink according to the standard of honesty, morality, fair play and sportsmanship, and to refrain from conduct detrimental to the best interest of the Club, the league, or professional hockey." Their is talk the Stars may try to void his contract.

lawrocket 3 #12 December 6, 2008 I'm with Darius. Avery's comment wasn't directed at women, nor directly at his exes. It was a jab at his opponents! The insults to his exes were collateral damage. I've ALWAYS been a fan of Avery. Heck, I had my "What Would Avery Do" avatar and quote here several times (and some of y'all thought I was ragging on Mr. Badenhop). I have always loved players like him who in terms of sheer talent shouldn't be at the top but got there through guts and grit. I don't like his mouth. But to suspend him for misogynistic comments? That is a childish excuse for punishing a childish statement from a childish man. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Really? Would you suspend someone for an ethnic comment? A racist one?
lawrocket 3 #14 December 6, 2008 Like if it was Iginla commenting about ex-girlfriends not dating nhl players because they've gone black and can't go back? Gee, think Igignla would be in trouble for insinuating that he banged some women and they can't find any more black guys in the NHL? H-E-double hockey sticks NO. Despite the racial and misogynistic implications the league would look the other way. He may even be lauded for his commentary on the lack of blacks in the NHL. Change your mind? I know, probably not. But note - Avery didn't insult Women as a whole, did he? He insulted four or more people - two of them women. He did comment on women being bitches, skanks or demimondaines. Nope. I myself have had a couple of psycho exes. Ooh! I guess I should be banned for misogynistic comments. My wife is hotter than your wife.
Andrewwhyte 1 #15 December 6, 2008 The truth is he is not being suspended for offending two women. He is being suspended for taking the pre-game rivalry to a place the league does not want it to go; to a place that has revenge as a topic; to a place where a repeat of the Bertuzzi-Moore incident is possible. The league is trying to present an image. This guy is not only fucking with that image, but doing so in a way that has pissed the rest of the players off so much that they won't defend him. Some players around the league were quoted wishing they hadn't suspended him until after the game so Pfaneuf could get to him first. THIS is exactly what the league does not want. lawrocket 3 #16 December 6, 2008 Hmm. There are players who are prettymuch expressly identified as goons. What the difference between Avery and Ian LaPerriere? Lappy keeps his mouth shut off the ice. But this is a guy who got a major penalty more than once every four games in 2000. Do you think that Avery isn't gonna be a target because he served a suspension? Nobody likes Avery. He's a pain in the ass. Suspending him isn't gonna do much good for that. So the league gets to him first. The rest of the league will get to him second. My wife is hotter than your wife.
