Because Iran would not use Nuclear weapons much like every other country that has them. If Iran would use Nuclear weapons on Israel or any one it would be destroyed simple as that. If we can start to use words as a justification for violence and action it will be a very bloody world. Irans words are empty threats until they have the means to enforce them. Israel wants to prevent them from having those means.
kelpdiver 2 #52 December 5, 2008 Quote Like any other country they have the right to attack if they are attacked. Words are not enough of an excuse and preemptive strikes can not be justified. In your frame of reference, it seems. OTOH, we're already clearly established that Iran is attacking Israel via proxies. These conversations are so circular. First you start with "Iran is an innocent, don't hurt them." Then when confronted with their statements and actions, it becomes "yeah, but the US is worse." The US is irrelevant to this. It's about one nation's (Israel) right to defend itself against an open aggressor. Yes, words matter, there's no ambiguity here. Esp when coupled with actions. Since you don't accept Israel's right to exist, of course you're never going to see their right to self defense, and you're never going to appreciate the mentality of a people who were systematically killed in WWII. I can't either - nothing in my history is remotely similar, but I certainly see good cause for them to engage in preemptive strikes.
falxori 0 #53 December 6, 2008 Quote1948- is when the Israelis started building homes on top of Palestinian homes ok, so in your view Israel has no right to exist, you would not accept the two state solution and the who country should be handed to the palestinians. Quoteyour country was started by destroying lives of the people who lived on the very land that now you call your own. Peoples dreams, homes, and in some cases lives were destroyed so the Israelis could have a place. funny, I'm sure that's exactly what my family felt when they were driven out of Hebron during the 36-39 riots. they've been living there for centuries, btw. this didnt start at 67, nor at 48. Quote The religious idea that some how Moses believes that Israel belongs to the Jews is a bit far fetched in my book what's that have to do with anything? Israel's right to exist rely on the jewish people's link to this place and you cannot dispute this link. Quote If you go back far enough there was no Jews because there was no Jewish faith. well at least you can be sure they were there before the muslims, right? but yes, if you find me some cananites or Hitties, you may have a point. the difference between us is that I accept the fact that both nations have a claim in this land. It looks like you (and Hamas and Hezbolllah) refuse to accept the Israel has a right to exist just as much (if not more) than a palestinian state. Ori both sides believe they have a right on this small piece of land, and both are right. if you dont accept the fact that it has to be shared, then you don't really want peace.
