JohnRich 4 #1 November 24, 2008 News:Would-be appointees quizzed on guns President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team is asking potential appointees detailed questions about gun ownership... It’s just one question on a lengthy personnel form — No. 59 on a 63-question list... Obama’s transition team declined to go into detail on why they included the question, suggesting only that it was done to ensure potential appointees were in line with gun laws. “The intent of the gun question is to determine legal permitting,” said one transition aide. But even some Democrats and transition experts are baffled by the inclusion of the question. Tucked in at the end of the questionnaire and listed under “Miscellaneous,” it reads: “Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage...”Source: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1108/15835.html So why is he so concerned about his appointees owning a legal firearm? Did he also ask them if they keep alcohol in their home? Did he ask if they've ever been arrested for an alcohol-related offense? Did he ask them if they secure their cleaning products from small children? Have any children ever fallen accidentally into their swimming pools? Did he ask if their automobiles have always been properly registered, inspected and insured, without lapse? Have they ever been involved in any traffic accidents? jakee 1,648 #2 November 24, 2008 Damn John, 11,000 posts and you still can't construct a decent poll? Quote Did he ask if they've ever been arrested for an alcohol-related offense? For any offence. Quote So why is he so concerned about his appointees owning a legal firearm? They probably think that guns are a hot button issue. Judging by your response I'd say they're right.Do you want to have an ideagasm?

billvon 3,173 #5 November 24, 2008 >So why is he so concerned about his appointees owning a legal firearm? Same reason he's concerned about people using a legal housekeeper. Because if it turns out that someone is using an illegal immigrant as a housekeeper, it reflects poorly on him. Same with an illegal gun. >Did he ask if they've ever been arrested for an alcohol-related offense? Yes, he did.
DSE 5 #6 November 24, 2008 Wow. Great poll!Given that the last vice-president shot a constituent... it's probably a valid question. CYA... As one commentator put it, (paraphrased) "This'll probably freak out a quarter million NRA types, but it won't bother the other 65 million firearms owners in the USA." This owner of firearms couldn't agree more. BFD. Quote Did he also ask them if they keep alcohol in their home? Did he ask if they've ever been arrested for an alcohol-related offense? You can read all the questions [url "http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/national/13apply_questionnaire.pdf"]here The fireamrs question doesn't seem out of line at all in context of the others. But there are always conspiracy theorists searching for Hoffa in the ether...

DSE 5 #10 November 24, 2008 Quote Quote I wonder if your good buddy W asked that question.. considering his earlier penchant for abusing substances. Didnt President Obama admit to using coke? EXACTLY, he did. He admitted it. And STILL got elected. So he's fucked if he's honest, fucked if he lies. But Bush claimed to never have used coke or other substances. Mitt Romney claimed to have never said "Fuck" in his life. Sarah Palin thinks Africa is a country. But Obama sucks because he asked about traffic tickets, current tax owances, firearms, and illegal alien employees, along with asking about if you've ever done anything that *might* embarass his administration *if elected.* This questionnaire is nothing new. it's merely that the frootcakes and sore losers can't bear to go without something over which to gnash their teeth and pull out the sackcloth and ashes over. Quote Yes. He couldn't pass this screening he's requiring for prospective employees. Ahhh....but there is the unknown. He doesn't say he'll discriminate against you if you HAVE done any of these things, he's merely saying he wants to know.

kallend 2,230 #12 November 24, 2008 Quote So why is he so concerned about his appointees owning a legal firearm? I suspect he's more interested in whether they own an ILLEGAL firearm. Google "Zoe Baird" or "Kimba Wood".... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
kelpdiver 2 #13 November 24, 2008 Quote I suspect he's more interested in whether they own an ILLEGAL firearm. Google "Zoe Baird" or "Kimba Wood". The sad thing about that process was that it happened twice. After the first failure, one would expect them to ask the second nominee in advance. TankBuster 0 #14 November 24, 2008 QuoteIt sure is making gun sales spike.... for all of those afraid of Obama. I saw an interview with a gun store owner who said he expected the run on handguns and "assault weapons." What he didn't expect was all the customers wearing Obama T-shirts coming in to buy guns before he banned them. Gotta love it.The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer. Have they ever been involved in any traffic accidents? Have you read the application at all or are you going off NRA talking points again? The application asks for a variety of sensitive issues including any screen names you have used on any and all websites. I talked to someone I know at the DoD and another fellow that works for the FBI. Both of them told me they have no idea why the application is news to anyone as the process has essentially been the same for every top level position in the White House staff and those that support them. One of them told me that their 8th grade science teacher was interviewed about something that showed up on their radar. But, go ahead and continue to build some sort of anti Obama thing out of this as well. I wonder what Obamer is going to do with those applicants? "Yes, I have a gun, and it is neither licensed nor registered, because it is not required to be."
