gregpso 1 #1 November 18, 2008 You certainly win hands down on the service side of thing. We find the gratudy system a bit funny but the good folk in the USA are certaintly helpul and friendly our Aussie hospitality workers could take a leaf out of your book on that one. My son works as a dealer in the casino in Melbourne $22 per hour Dealer in vegas earns around $6 per hour plus tips. Slave labor.I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??
TomAiello 26 #2 November 18, 2008 How much do they each average in tips, per hour? It's an honest question--I've got no idea.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
kelpdiver 2 #3 November 19, 2008 I'd say the average varies considerably - Friday night on the Strip is much better than monday morning downtown. but my understanding is the strip dealers are doing quite fine for themselves.
Nightingale 0 #4 November 19, 2008 The gratuity system has a lot to do with that helpful and friendly attitude you find here. Because a server's income depends directly on his or her attitude, they're a lot more helpful. If you don't like the service, you don't have to leave a gratuity. The wages in our system are lower because the gratuities make up the rest. Our card dealers are probably making at least the equivalent of what your son is making, if you include tips. Some casinos split tips among all the dealers, so the dealers at the low stakes tables get a fair cut of the tips tossed around the high end tables. Food servers usually do fairly well tips-wise, but it depends on the restaurant (a waitress at a really expensive place is going to make a lot more in tips than someone at a diner), and bartenders usually do better. My brother bartends, and probably comes close to what I'm making as a lawyer (and in defense of that statement, he's at the busiest martini bar in town, and I'm not that well paid, as lawyer salaries go) when you add in his tips.
