Bring back the WPA?

Recommended Posts

People are losing jobs right and left. Jobs are being shipped over seas. The economy is in the dump and people are afraid to spend because they don't know how bad things will get.

The nation's infrastructure is falling apart. Roads and bridges are in need of repair.

Is bringing back the WPA a good idea or just "socialism"?

I don't think a WPA would work, unemployment isn't that high, and the waste in such a program would be immeasurable. However, I do think that transportation should be given a new mandate to rebuild the transportation infrastructure. Would that translate to a new WPA or Federal Works Agency, I don't know...
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I don't think we are to that point yet. If unemployment gets to 15% and stuff to that sort I could see that coming in to help. God knows we need roads and bridges to be built so go to it. Erect a couple nuke plants while they are at it.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

Something needs to be done to encourage companies to keep jobs in the country as opposed to going overseas. Rework the tax code so American companies can remain competitive while keeping our jobs at home.
The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
