RPC1117 0 #1 November 6, 2008 A little background first...I moved to NC this year and had to change over my Drivers License. To do that I had to bring in proof of ID, social security card, proof of residence, etc. During this process I registered to vote in NC. No problems here, I presented the necessary documents required by law, got my DL and my voter registration card a few weeks later. Election Day - I go into the polling place and was asked for my name and address. After giving these to the person, I was handed my ballot. ???? No form of ID was required. I even asked the worker if she needed to see ID, voter registration card, etc. I was told no and that they were not allowed to ask for it. I replied by asking the lady how she knew I was who I say I am. She said she didn't and couldn't do anything about it. I find this very unsettling. No matter who you vote for, I would think that most people would see problems in this process. Seems like this is just an invitation for rampant voter fraud. All I would have to do to cast numerous ballots, it seems, is to go through the phone book and write down names and addresses, go to the poll and vote numerous times. So, my question is...what is the best way to ensure that voter fraud is prevented? To vote in the US, you need to meet certain requirements....over 18, US citizen, etc. what would be the best way to ensure that those voting meet these requirements and only get one vote? How is this handled in other countries? I really find it strange that more proof is required to be able to drive legally than it is to effect the laws of a country. councilman24 37 #3 November 6, 2008 They probably marked your name off. You may have had to sign a form. Until two years ago MI was the same way. But, you wouldn't be able to vote twice.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

RPC1117 0 #7 November 7, 2008 Last time I checked, until last Tuesday NC had been a "red" state for decades, so blame the Republicans, not the Dems. A democrat has been the governor since 1993...so I'll throw out your hypothesis on the republicans. The point of my post was not a "let's point fingers" game. The point was to inquire into what the process should be in order to eliminate voter fraud. I would imagine that you are pretty familiar with vote fraud, seeing that you are from Chicago. Surely, you have seen problems and have an opinion? To answer another post, yes, I did have to sign something and they did put "cross off" my name. So that would prevent me from voting twice using my name. But what is to prevent me from using my boss's name? I know his name and his address...I could walk into his polling place and say that I was him and vote. When he shows up to vote...tough shit pal...we have it here that you already voted.
