It's an ongoing issue, the animal rights activists were trying to have it banned the last time, claiming cruel treatment of the dogs. It didn't pass then, but the revenue at the racetracks have decreased considerably.
I personally have mixed feelings about the issue, being a fierce animal lover. On one hand I don't condone the exploitation of animals in any form (they don't really have a choice) however by banning it in Mas., the owners will just move them somewhere else, where it's legal. And presto! You have a bunch of people out of their jobs in this shitty economy. Most of them with families, with homes they can barely make payments on or in their fifties. So the MSPCA may be celebrating but it's hardly a victory...

I was more involved with the local school board race. The candidate that will do the best job (ie the one I voted for) won. Maybe now they can get to some smart spending.
