Like any one entity, the ACLU does not have unlimited resources. That means they pick and choose. And we already know that they only see 9 articles in the Bill of Rights. I agree that they do not have unlimited monies but, the choices and cases they have picked show a pattern."America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." quade 4 #184 November 8, 2008 QuoteAnd we already know that they only see 9 articles in the Bill of Rights. Really, which one do you think they're leaving out? They've gone to bat a number of times for every single one of the 10 Amendments. kelpdiver 2 #185 November 8, 2008 Let's not pretend. We all know which one they take a crap on whenever they have the chance. Even though I say they don't have to work every issue, the fact that they have always argued against the 2nd means I'll never support them with dollars. quade 4 #186 November 8, 2008 But I just showed you that they don't "always" do that. If you want some organization to ALWAYS fight for the 2nd, you have the NRA. The ACLU has a different mission statement which is to cover all of the Bill of Rights. They pick the battles they can win and let go of the ones they can't. It's just good business.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Better business is not to antagonize those who believe in all the rights, and might make contributions, by asserting the collective militia myth. If they had done that, I could give money to them to work 1, 3-27, and money to the NRA-ILA to work the 2nd.
quade 4 #188 November 8, 2008 So, for you it's either all in or all out. Even if they can and do help you sometimes, if they're not 100% for you, you want nothing to do with them. Ok. Can you not see how that isn't really the best idea?quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
kelpdiver 2 #189 November 8, 2008 Right now we are seeing the wrath of those opposed to Prop 8 going against the churches, Utah, and the LDS in particular. And I don't blame them - the other side went out of their way to deny them basic rights. Same is true for the ACLU wrt the right to bear arms. So fuck em. You can't say you're a defender of all rights and then work against them.
