QuoteThe problem is that, while power isn't a zero-sum game, neither is it an everyone-can-win game.
At any given time, there is a finite number of powerful positions in any structure. If one group is mostly (even if not entirely) excluded from those positions of power for a long time, the group that wasn't excluded is going to see a sudden inclusion as a loss of what they had. Because, well, it is. Now the group they have to compete against is much larger.
To go along with that, the criteria (which are often based on mores and customs of the formerly-dominant group) change too.
So, yeah. White males in the US had a lot of power that they never even thought they had, because that was normal. Not that they did a bad job, just that one generally had to be better if not a white male. Because the world, country, state, or company might not be "ready" for a female/black/hispanic/handicapped whatever.

white, christian men have NEVER had to fight for, or been denied their rights. ever.
what's wrong with having pride?
:sigh: this topic always gets me all riled up. lol.
Ummm, personally I feel extremely segregated at ladies' night in the bars, clubs, and the nor cal tunnel... to the point i cry myself to sleep at night. What about fighting for an independent nation to be proud of? ya know, all the rights we have given ourselves and defended for a couple centuries now so that a black man can be president? That was kind of a big win that we fought for...
Since I am an athiest and white and not a white christian male, does that make me a minority and can i have white pride now?
Nothing wrong with pride, but i do get the same frustrated feelings when it is OK to have black power and black pride, and sadly the idea white pride and white focus groups has been completely tainted by the lovely KKK and like groups. That said, I'm not proud to be white i mean i just happened to be born that way, nothing to take pride in. I'm proud of the sh*t i've done in and with my life, the sh*t i've worked for- why can't it be that simple for all races? No one ever worked or earned the color of their skin, racial pride enhances the divide IMO. yes, the slave thing is kind of a big blemish on our history, but it has clearly been rectified with what happened last night. I do think obama is handling the racial thing very well by downplaying it as much as he can, i appreciate that aspect of his campaign and victory... yes i can.
Me too

I didn't vote for obama because i don't like the way he gives a thumbs up... and the fact he has no f*cking clue or experience on what makes the world go 'round.

I don't know if Jesse Jackson was crying because he was happy or jealous.
I started tearing up a little bit out of joy.
I would hope that Jackson might have had a revelation last night. A revelation that his bullying and divisive tactics -aren't- the way to invoke change, but what worked was bringing everyone together. Point and center lesson to him last night.

Well, a black man can get elected, but an athiest? No chance.
A circumcised man can't either .... because you have to be a complete prick to be a politician
