kelpdiver 2 #2 November 4, 2008 QuoteAnyone else seeing these banner ads? Is this an interpretation of McCain-Feingold (if you needed just one more reason not to vote for the guy...)? There are people on every corner actively campaigning. Just can't be within X yards of the polling sites.
diablopilot 2 #3 November 4, 2008 I see.... I was talking about the near constant YES on 8 add that is dominating my screen. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
diablopilot 2 #4 November 4, 2008 Kind of comical that it's a Google ad, since I believe Google was a major contributor to the NO on 8 cause.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
Gawain 0 #5 November 4, 2008 QuoteIsn't active campaigning on the day of the election illegal? No.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! It did, but if it refused all advertising it didn't agree with, there would be a different controversy. Frankly it doesn't seem like the most effective form of advertising, given its one state concern.
skydiver30960 0 #7 November 4, 2008 Quote Just can't be within X yards of the polling sites. Does that include signs? I hope not, or I guess not, since I drove by about a thousand signs for both parties literally a stone's throw from my polling site. Elvisio "we should figure out how to use the old signs to heat our homes or make electricity or some shit like that" Rodriguez

Google is aware of where IP addresses are located geographically, so those of us who live in California are much more likely to see those ads. They do get it wrong sometimes. I was amused when I moved a few miles from their headquarters in Mountain View and google.com thought I was in Germany,.
DrewEckhardt 0 #9 November 5, 2008 QuoteAnyone else seeing these banner ads? No. I got fed up with all the distracting animation in advertisements and installed an ad-blocker plugin. Now I have an ad-free dz.com.
