kallend 2,230 #3 October 27, 2008 So conservative intellectuals are shifting to Obama. Doesn't look like he's getting the neo-Nazi skinhead assassin-wannabe vote, though.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

Have you data to support that? And there are some posters here who believe all Republicans are racist neonazi neanderthals. My wife is hotter than your wife. Gawain 0 #7 October 28, 2008 I'm a subscriber to the Economist, and while I like it as a whole, it is an elite-minded, left leaning publication. I recall reading a column in there about a week before Russia invaded Georgia, they were remarking some polite idea that Russia was positioning to pressure Georgia to join some UN placed panel about the enclaves in dispute. A week following the Russian invasion, they had no way to position their coverage, it was a "shocked" perspective. Lexington has its own agenda altogether....whatever lens he uses to view things is in need of cleaning...to buttress his claims he cites Powell, Sen. Hagel, and Buckley? My point being, if you read the Economist regularly, anyone will be able to see very strange perspective they have of us, and thus, one can assume, the world. It's certainly insightful sometimes, but it's also a completely different brand of tea. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Unless one redefines "left" (not 'liberal') to mean free-market capitalist ideal? This may be an illustrative example of the need to recognize the difference between political affiliation/leaning and social values versus economics. They are not the same. Andrewwhyte 1 #10 October 28, 2008 If you think the Economist is a left leaning publication I think that says a lot about where you sit and how it affects your perception of the centre. Basically you can't see it from your seat.Best line of the article was the last one. Quote If the Republican Party continues to think that the problem lies with the rats, rather than the seaworthiness of the ship, then the Obamacons are here to stay. SpeedRacer 1 #11 October 28, 2008 My feeling is that there are several very different elements within the Republican Party, some I agree with, some I don't. The particular NeoConservative brand that is running things now has not proven to be in the best interests of the Republican Party.
