DSE 5 #1 October 26, 2008 Republican leaders can't get Palin to lockstep with the rest of em'. ....A second McCain source says she appears to be looking out for herself more than the McCain campaign. "She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone," said this McCain adviser. "She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else. "Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom." lawrocket 3 #4 October 26, 2008 Good. She's NOT lockstep. She's her own woman. Her own person. McCain picked her and knew what he was getting. Maverick? Rogue. Yes. Good. A little independence is pretty sweet in the political arena. And if it torpedos McCain then so be it. To paraphrase Brendan Sullivan Palin is not a potted plant. My wife is hotter than your wife. Based on his reactions to her lately, I'd say that was most likely NOT true. He took a gamble on her and lost. That's not to say she's not a groovy independent chick, but it does look like she is not what McCain had hoped for. >Maverick? Rogue. Yes. Good. A little independence is pretty sweet in the >political arena. Definitely. And if she wants to run for office again (which I figure she will) she can do so without being linked to a guy like McCain. quade 4 #9 October 26, 2008 Quote"Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party." If this is true, she's pathologically delusional. If McCain loses (and at this point, let's face it, he probably will), then Palin is going to be seen as one of if not THE reason he lost. She will be done nationally. My further guess is that she'll even have trouble holding on to her slot as Governor.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

She will be done nationally. My further guess is that she'll even have trouble holding on to her slot as Governor. She will, perhaps, be done (though she might do pretty good if she comes back catering only to the religious right). But ultimately, the choice of Palin as VP reflects badly on McCain more than anyone else. If it's the reason he loses, it's his own fault. It was certainly the reason I quit taking him seriously as a candidate, and then he just went downhill after that one big horrible decision.

JerryBaumchen 1,466 #25 October 27, 2008 Hi crwtom, Quotewill have disappeared from the national scene by Christmas. I have been thinking about this and a guy named Bill Miller who also disappeared after a national election. I found this about him: William E. Miller: The Man Who Wanted To Be Vice President William E. (Bill) Miller, Republican vice-presidential candidate in 1964, the only Notre Dame alum ever to be chosen to run for the second highest office in the land, Barry Goldwater once used to capture the humor, decency and commitment to public service that his 1964 running mate exemplified: "Bill was a good trooper, fought the good fight, and went home to Lockport, New York, with a smile and good grace . . ." He was a virtually unknown Congressman from upstate New York when Goldwater picked him for this V-P running mate. They got swamped by LBJ and you never heard of Bill Miller again.
