SpeedRacer 1 #1 October 25, 2008 It looks as though Obama has an 80% chance of winning the election. I am going to vote for a Republican Congressman. I don't think it's a good thing to have one party win the presidency AND have a majority in Congress. A little conflict can be a good thing, because it keeps one party from pushing things too far. So when you go to the polls on November 4th, consider voting for a Republican for Congress. Shotgun 1 #6 October 25, 2008 I considered it, but I prefer the Democratic candidate, so I will vote for her. But I'm pretty sure the incumbent Republican candidate (Mary Bono Mack) will win anyway.

Generally I agree, but we have gone so far right that we need to come left for a while, so I will vote partisan Dem. If we ever strike what I consider a moderate country, I will then seek balance. Andy9o8 3 #8 October 25, 2008 Nope. This isn't the old days when Dem majorities tried to work with Nixon or Reagan. When Clinton was President, the Repubs did anything, everything possible to avoid even a hint of comity with Clinton, and to simply shut him down wherever possible once they attained majority in '94. The Repubs will absolutely do the same thing with Obama. And we saw what a Repub majority did when paired with a Repub President. As far as I'm concerned, the Repubs have completely pissed away all moral authority to be the majority party in either house of Congress for at least the next 20 years. TheAnvil 0 #9 October 25, 2008 I think the current Congress has done a horrible job. PLEASE vote for a Republican. ESPECIALLY if the incumbent is a democrat. NWFlyer 2 #10 October 25, 2008 I live in California's 9th District. We haven't elected a Republican around here since the late 60s. It's pretty obvious the Republicans phone it in around here when they forget to even put their candidate on their local party web site. If his own party doesn't even take him seriously, I certainly can't be expected to.Setting all that aside, 1) I disagree with your logic and 2) I prefer to vote for candidates whose beliefs align with mine. Just reading Hargrave's statement of his own beliefs, there's enough in there to make me take a pass: Quote He said he believes abortion should be legal only when the mother's life is endangered; capital gains, inheritance, gasoline, alcohol and tobacco taxes should be eliminated; and troop levels in Iraq should be maintained without a withdrawal timetable until the new Iraqi government can support itself. He supports capital punishment; expanding oil exploration into currently restricted areas; voluntary, not mandatory international emission targets to limit global warming; establishing English as the official national language; letting workers invest part of their Social Security payroll tax in self-managed private accounts; and requiring welfare recipients to spend at least 40 hours a week in work and training programs. He opposes same-sex marriage. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. DSE 5 #11 October 25, 2008 My incumbent is a Republican; he voted for the bailout. How could I possibly vote for him? *I did vote for him twice in the past. I agree, Congress has done a terrible job. Time for him to come home.

headoverheels 334 #15 October 26, 2008 Damn, Hargrave is wrong on almost every issue. It's hard to do that. No, what you want is for the President and Congress to be able to actually accomplish something in which you are interested. Every one of the party you most favor will do the most for that goal.
