billvon 3,173 #1 October 21, 2008 So the other day I was going to lunch at a local restaurant. The waiter had a "Say No to Socialism - Vote for McCain" button on. Lunch was great, and afterwards the waiter dropped the bill off. I dug out exact change and gave it to him. He looked in the folder as he picked it up, and he frowned a bit. "Let me explain about the no tip thing," I said. "I notice you are against socialism and for McCain. So you'll understand that you have no right to my money." "But that doesn't mean I'm cheap," I said. "I'm going to take half of what I would have tipped you and give it to the CEO of Chili's. That way, the company you work for will be enriched, and as McCain has pointed out many times, that will help you." "Further," I said, "no doubt the CEO of Chili's will make so much money that you will soon be making over a quarter million dollars a year. And at that point, you will be better off under McCain's tax plan. Heck, you could probably buy your own Chili's at that point without any onerous taxes from Obama." "So, overall, I am helping you out far more than I would be by giving you money that doesn't belong to you." For some odd reason, though, he didn't seem all that grateful. lawrocket 3 #2 October 21, 2008 Wealth Redistribution the Libertarian Way So the other day I was going to lunch at a local restaurant. The waiter had a "Vote Libertarian" button on. Lunch was good, as was his service, and afterwards the waiter dropped the bill off. "Do you take American Express?" I asked him. "We certainly do." He looked in the folder as he picked it up, and rant the card. He returned a couple of minutes later. I put the food bill on the Amex, and dug out five bucks for a tip, even though the bill was only twenty dollars. "Would you like me to break that fiver?" he asked. I said. "No. Keep the five. You did a great job, so your tip is commensurate with that." "Wow. In the last few minutes, I've had this Republican in here, who borrowed money from his kid to pay my tip. I had a Democrat who wanted to borrow money from me to tip me, but then left without paying any money because he said he couldn't afford it." Then he said, "Thanks." I said, "You're welcome. And here's another five bucks for the cook." Since he was libertarian, I know that the cook actually received it. My wife is hotter than your wife. The kid makes about $2.00 an hour, Bill. Way to be a beacon of light for the democratic party. I hope this is just an example so I don't lose that much respect for you. Under Obama's plan, he'd be better off just quitting and collecting a welfare check and free healthcare. Maybe if we all went out and stiffed our servers then that would teach them to just give up. Why work hard if people are going to fuck you over anyway and the government will hand you a check for nothing if you stay home? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. billvon 3,173 #11 October 21, 2008 >The kid makes about $2.00 an hour, Bill. Right! Surely you do not advocate giving him money just because he's poor. That's so - Obama-ish. >Under Obama's plan, he'd be better off just quitting and collecting a >welfare check and free healthcare. Nope. He will always make more money by working. That's the big difference between welfare and tax credits. Heck, that's the whole rationale behind them. >Maybe if we all went out and stiffed our servers then that would teach >them to just give up. Nonsense! If you channel money to the CEO's instead of the servers, they do better in the end! Right? If not, better get McCain on the horn and set him straight,

Feeling that someone is "owed" money because of their financial status (i.e. "you realize they only make $2.00 an hour? You better tip him!") is the basis of wealth redistribution. No, tipping is not really socialism. Nor is Obama's tax plan - even if it does help people making $2.00 an hour.
