The loser this election is………

Recommended Posts

This site and the people in it!

I used to have a sig line that said “Give people enough time and you will see who they really are”. This has never been truer than this election. Some people here should bow your heads in shame and beg the people here who used to be your friends for forgiveness.

It is one thing to have a different opinion than another poster but to use name calling, threats, intimidation, abuse and outright verbally destroying them for even posting something is just wrong.

I believe this site was created to grow friendships, good will and provide a source of information of the sport we love. I will tell you that I have lost more friends here this election than I have gained. People I know here have said things that if I had not read it myself I would have never believed.

So before you hit the send key the next time, stop and ask yourself if it is the way that you would want someone to talk to you.

Stay safe and be well
Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!

I was actually talking about this with my dad today. We weren't talking specifically about these forums, but about how nasty people are becoming to one another about the election in general. It's pretty disturbing. It's one thing to express your views. It's another thing altogether to attack people for having different ones.

I don't think this place is any different than the last two elections.

That is sad to hear[:/]

That includes here or anywhere else. Let's not be hypersensitive, it's politics and we all want things done our way.

As for candidates getting nastier, I think McCane is and he should be considering he's been losing from the start. Obama generally lays his plan and distinguishes it from McCane's. McCane seems to bring everything back to what, "this one" rather than negotiating substance.

The 2 party system and the big game mentality. Only thing missing is bimbos with pom poms.;)

I'm for a 3rd party, I voted for Perot and I voted for a Republican before. We've always been 2-party tho, so enjoy. Aren't most countries 2-party in that there are 2 outstanding parties that get most of the votes?

Which is why I really dont post anything about politics here. Ive seen several people here with views other than my own that I consider friends. That being said, I'm avoiding the very situation that you're reffering to. I can respect others opinions. Can they do the same? Don't know. Don't really care. Crisis averted.:)

>but do you think it was any different way back in the 1700 or 1800's?

There weren't as many people posting on dropzone.com back in the 1700's . . .

Just kidding. No, there's not much difference between those days and today. Indeed, papers printed even more brazen lies because there wasn't a way to check the facts easily.

In 1796 the presidential race was between Adams and Jefferson. Federalists claimed Jefferson was an anarchist, an atheist, a demagogue, coward and trickster, and that people who supported him were "cut-throats who walk in rags and sleep amidst filth and vermin." Adams supported such statements, while Jefferson did not quite descend to that level of negativity.

Adams won.

I hate to say it, but this particular forum has been like that from the start. If I remember correctly, it was created around the time of the last presidential election (or maybe the one before that?) as an effort to keep all the nastiness in one forum.

But honestly, if it isn't elections, its guns or racism or corporal punishment in the public school system, or some other hot topic. And no, most of us would not argue in person that way, and most of us can also radically disagree on a lot of these issues and still get along.

That's because Jefferson got Hamilton to be his hatchet man, so he could claim to have stayed above it all. Hamilton stepped on a lot of toes, including Burr's just one too many times. But I digress.

What's interesting, and relevant to this thread, is that John and Abigail Adams, and Jefferson, were the dearest of personal friends dating back to when Adams and Jefferson were envoys to Paris during the Revolutionary War. That friendship was torn asunder by domestic politics running up to, and beyond, the 1796 election. The two men didn't speak to each other for about 20 years. Eventually, in their old age, they finally reconciled and resumed a vigorous correspondence with each other. They both died just hours apart on July 4, 1826.

It's amazing how some people just can't seem to agree to disagree.

Some seem to think that life is about making other people echo your beliefs or mocking and belittling those that are different.

Guess what? People are different. You would think that on a skydiving website that people would be able to understand that concept.
