livendive 8 #1 October 14, 2008 I'm considering changing the way I donate money. Up till now, I've donated to the candidates who I thought were best for the job. I've still got plenty of room below the maximum, and only three weeks left till the election, so I'm thinking of letting their ad campaigns dictate how much each other gets from here on out. More specifically, every time I see a negative campaign ad on TV, I'll go donate $20 to the candidate being bad-mouthed. But it seems to me like there are some rules regarding a cut-off date for acceptance of donations, and I'm not sure exactly what they are. Anyone know? TrophyHusband 0 #2 October 14, 2008 i don't know the answer, but didn't hillary clinton continue to ask for donations after obama got the nomination? even after the election, win or lose, there are still a lot of expenses. there are offices and equipment with utility bills and whatever other support systems that they just can't walk away from on november 5th. i would guess that you can still donate for a while. $20 bucks for every negative add? wow, that could add up. And TrophyHusband's right...I should probably make it $10 per negative ad rather than $20 . . . and watch as little TV as possible between now and the election. councilman24 37 #5 October 15, 2008 I'm not up on federal rules but campaigns often have debts to retire even after the race is over. (Hilary) But the donation limits are per campaign cycle. Left over funds can be used for various things to support activities of the incumbant and re-election. The short answer is they never stop accepting contributions. There are reporting deadlines. My campaign committee has been active in Michigan for over 12 years. Of course I've never accepted a contribution. I'm old for my age.
