DJL 235 #1 October 11, 2008 I was recently having a conversation with a friend of mine and came to realize that she had no idea what the Iran Contra Affair was about. Granted she was born in '82 in the midwest and I have a better understanding of it having grown up in Wash D.C.. That wasn't quite reason for revoking suffrage but it's close. What are some events in the last 58 years that Americans need to understand in order to be an effective voter? Gulf of Tonkin Bay of Pigs Watergate Iran Contra Missing/threat of WMDs in Iraq 9/11 Falling of the Berlin Wall (End of Soviet era) Vietnam (Reason for being/not being there) Beirut USMC barracks bombing Cuban missile crisis The Cold War Civil Rights Movement Pol Pot Castro Che Gueverra (A bigger understanding than t-shirt marketing) MLK Malcomn X Marion Barry (smoked crack, got his job back) After a quick search: birth control, ho chi minh, richard nixon back again Moonshot, woodstock, watergate, punk rock Begin, reagan, palestine, terror on the airline Ayatollahs in iran, russians in afghanistan Wheel of fortune, sally ride, heavy metal, suicide Foreign debts, homeless vets, aids, crack, bernie goetz Hypodermics on the shores, chinas under martial law Rock and roller cola wars, I cant take it anymore"I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
