rhys 0 #1 October 9, 2008 I wonder how much of the stuff they smoked. They wouldn't have been growing high potency stuff, or were they? It was not until early last century that cannabis was prohibited, in fact it wasn't prohibited until after alcohol was. The Cotton and Plastic (oil) industry campained to have it made illegal and til this day it remains so. http://www.friendsofcannabis.com/friends/us_presidents.htm http://www.hempcar.org/washington.shtml"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
rhys 0 #2 October 9, 2008 Why does it not surprise me that the only two other votes other than mine(at this stage), are from people that do not know they grew cannabis? These people (the forfathers) developed your country and the very industry that got the USA on its feet is not taught about in mainstream education."When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
Misternatural 0 #3 October 9, 2008 sigh, industrial weed has so many uses. If the feds legalize it for industrial use i can grow it here to make biodiesel, hemp seed oil, and the seeds are friggin delicious! then burn the stalks for fuel. The year was '83 I was studying agriculture -and a patch of hemp grew down by the local river and locals were selling it to unsuspecting college students- smelled like it, but all it gave them was a headache. I imagine thats what Jefferson and Washington were growing.Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415
Butters 0 #4 October 9, 2008 Just like there is a difference between cotton plants there is a difference between marijuana plants ... hemp will not get you high."That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch

In the 1700's I don't think they would have had these limitations on the plants, do you? http://www.marijuanalibrary.org/7_presidents.html#41#41 QuoteDid the Founding Fathers of the United States of America smoke cannabis? Some researchers think so. Dr. Burke, president of the American Historical Reference Society and a consultant for the Smithsonian Institute, counted seven early presidents as cannabis smokers: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Zachary Taylor and Franklin Pierce. 41 "Early letters from our founding fathers refer to the pleasures of hemp smoking," said Burke. Pierce, Taylor and Jackson, all military men, smoked it with their troops. Cannabis was twice as popular among American soldiers in the Mexican War as in Vietnam: Pierce wrote to his family that it was "about the only good thing" about that war. jdfreefly 1 #6 October 9, 2008 They thought they could create a country where people would intelligently elect their leaders. They stated that all men were created equal, but each slave was worth 3/5ths of a vote. They thought that liberty was the most important thing, more important than safety or equality. They were clearly stoned out of their gourds. Methane Freefly - got stink?
zoom1 0 #7 October 9, 2008 of course they did slaves and poor farmers who could not afford tobacco would save the female plants (buds) and smoke that. george w was said to like the taste of bud over tobacco and smoked bud instead.( thats washington not bush, from the way bush acts i think he smokes crack)

rhys 0 #10 October 10, 2008 I suppose this is another conspiracy? they never grew hemp, the USA wasn't established by the stuff and the good old guys that wrote your beloved 2nd ammendment, were not smoking weed at the time. I am not suprised at the lack of interest from our republican friends in this conversation, it would be hard to imagine that the same people that made the constitution could have been partaing in the the evil narcotic that is cannabis. But I am only imagining this whole thing with my 'out there' theories aren't I. Funny (peculiar) that the first law in regards to Cannabis was that 'all farmers forced to grow it' by law or face strict penaties, the first US patent was a cannabis threshing machine, cannabis was legal tender for over a century and taxes could be paid with it.........
