TrophyHusband 0 #1 October 6, 2008 i have an acre of land and only two small trees that i don't really like. i would love to have a bunch of trees on my property, but trees aren't cheap and the bigger they are, the more they cost. also the soil/clay here isn't really good for growing trees, but a local place sells stuff that feeds the trees and amends the soil and it all natural. it isn't cheap though and i would need a lot of it. i wouldn't just plant shade trees, i would also plant fruit trees, so i could have my own fresh fruit. thats about as local as you can get. could i get the people who buy carbon offsets pay for my trees? this post is only half tongue-in-cheek, if i could really do this i would like to know. i need some shade, it gets fucking hot here in the summer. Skyrad 0 #3 October 6, 2008 Sounds like a great idea. I'm sure if you made a website with a bit of imagination and creativity you would get some loons to part with their money in no time at all. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. TrophyHusband 0 #4 October 6, 2008 what would i have to do to make it legal? is there a legal definition for carbon offset? would i have to get a business license? could i have a for profit organization where i kept a percentage of all the money raised, or would it have to be non profit and if so, would i have to tell the customers? if it were non profit, could i still keep a certain amout for administrative costs and the salary of the administrator? maybe i could make this a full time job. i live in the desert and i would bet a lot of people would want free trees, so maybe i could just keep collecting money and plant trees in other people yards once my yard is filled up. all that aside, i wonder if i could just be 100% honest about what i want to do and still get people to give me money. i'm curious what the people who believe in carbon offsets think of this.
