Police confiscate walking stick as a "weapon"

Los Angeles has ordinances restricting length (Miami considered restrictions as well; don't know what was the outcome of that proposal.

Doesn't seeing this kind of thing, and the lunacy of it, just sour you on the whole "restrict-the-weapons, not-the-dangerous-people" mentality?

I mean, who can get behind knife laws, gun laws... when they see this being the result of that kind of mentality?? :S

I’ve been long ‘soured’ on abrogation of personal privacy and rights … & efforts to deny basic autonomy of personhood.

You may have missed this post

And this one on the positive connection between civil rights and private gun ownership.

One doesn’t have to go to the UK to find restrictions on such objects.

Just imagine how this story would have been different if the police had taken this old man's walking stick:
Man, 60, fights off samurai sword attacker by striking him over the head with walking stick

An elderly hero stopped a samurai sword attacker by hitting him over the head with his walking stick.

David Fawcett, 60, had gone to a takeaway with his friends just after midnight on Monday when they spotted a man urinating outside.

Mr Fawcett, a former social worker, said: ‘Elaine asked him to stop. He got a bottle of beer and smashed her three times in the hand.

‘I got between them and he ran off saying he was going to get a sword and kill us.

Five minutes later he was back with the sword and chased me and Tony into the takeaway.’

Mr Fawcett said he dashed into the shop and tried to shut the door but the man slashed his hand with the sword before swinging the blade wildly above his head and trying to smash the glass door.

When the man tried to force his way into the takeaway, Mr Fawcett took the chance to protect his friends by striking the attacker on the head with his walking stick... I had to protect my friends.

After a police chase, the man was caught and arrested nearby...

The right of old people to keep and bear walking sticks shall not be infringed!

Okay, you know what... someone has got to be making this shit up. I'm feeling skeptical.

What the hell is going on in the UK nowadays?!?! What ever happened to good old fashioned shooting people? Is this what we have to look forward to if we ban firearms?

Seriously, was that the highlander?

Nothing much. What have we got in this thread anyway? One overzealous policeman at a demonstration, and one sword attack. Oh no, it's the collapse of civilisation!:S

Along that line of thought, here's another good one:
Council advises homeowners to leave sheds open for thieves

Tenants have been warned that padlocks can lead to thieves forcing their way through doors and windows of the council-owned sheds to steal garden equipment.

Bristol City Council claims its 'Don't Use a Padlock' initiative will save taxpayers' money because fewer sheds will have to be repaired or replaced.

And while you're at it, just leave your car keys in the ignition while you're away, so that the car thieves won't have to break out a window and damage the steering column!

Yup. And don't forget to leave your loaded weapon in the car, like some folks are doing in the US .... ;)

Jesus, all your efforts for digging out that redundant article reporting about "council-owned sheds" with garden equipment lying around.

:D:D:D hahaha
