Gawain 0 #1 September 30, 2008 http://caveatemptorblog.com/2008/07/28/two-banks-fail-90-on-fdic-problem-list/ Bottom line, there are a few, high-profile banks making the headlines because they're in trouble. There are 8500+ banks in this country, and chances are if you're a small business owner, doing business with a smaller bank, these credit problems are not posing as serious a problem as for this mega-corporations. A close friend of mine in northern California has been able to maintain, and expand his company's lines-of-credit (from roughly $1.5M to $3M). In fact, one of his banks tried to give him more than he wanted (just like our personal credit card solicitations). The reality is, the overwhelming number of banks here in the US are not in nearly as bad shape as the press is making it out to be. Might you have to work harder to keep your business flowing, perhaps, is that really a new scenario for you though? Is it wise to consider doing business with your local bank instead of mega-BofA, JPMorgan or Citi? Absolutely. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! I haven't seen anything in the press suggesting that my neighborhood banks are in trouble.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
