JohnnyD 0 #1 September 26, 2008 As I was watching some news report, a comment was made to the effect that McCain was going to DC to represent the views of the people in Arizona. That sounded quite strange to me, as McCain hasn't really lived in Arizona for nearly 30 years. My next thought was - Why? Why can't senators or us reps do their voting remotely? Seems like it would be a great service to their constituents if they we actually living among and in touch with the needs of the people they are representing. Also, it could serve to greatly decrease the influence of lobbyists and outside interests. Lastly, we wouldn't have to listen to how candidate x is going to "clean up washington" anymore. quade 4 #2 September 26, 2008 [rant] Now, now, just slow down there Buck Rogers. It's not like, for instance, your laptop can have a camera built into it and you can teleconference into any meeting any where on the planet just by sitting at the nearest Starbucks. FFS we're talking about people that think "The Google and The Internets" are "a series of tubes." Further, if they could do it, it might lead credence to the concept of US telecommuting. Our corporate aren't going to have any part of that for a number of reasons. The car companies don't want you to telecommute because then your cars will last longer and you won't need to buy as many. The oil companies don't want you to telecommute because that means you'll be buying less gas. And your very own dickweed boss certainly doesn't want you to telecommute because that means he has less control over you and it won't look like he's in charge of people. [/rant] Now, on to the real reason . . . the rules of the House and Senate require them to be present in order to vote. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
