Every year, there is (at least) one candidate that promises to reform everything.

- Politics is based on getting a group to vote for/against a topic.
If someone is too far out on the fringe, they vote alone.
Alone is not the majority needed to pass legislation.

- No politician will ever change the system that wins them an election. (Example - arguing against the outsourcing of jobs while your party receives $3M in campaign contributions from outsourcing companies.)
Biting the hand that feeds you, nearly literally.

- Campaign promises are paid, whether to corporate sponsors, or the owners of victimhood. Either way, the middle class suffers.

The success of a smiling promise has made late-night talk line owners into millionaires. Good hair and a smile elects a senator. P T Barnum is content.
