alw 0 #4 September 17, 2008 QuoteWhere are you getting the idea wamu is going under? There is some talk thisevening that WAMU is putting itself up for sale and there are some rumors that there is at least one suiter. I think the financial networks may have some followup. Also some talk of Morgan Stanley merging with Wakovia. With BOA acquiring Merrill Lynch it seems to be leading the way for tie-ups between investment banks and depository banks. This might signal a shift in the landscape that might settle the financial markets. This is something that looks like a possibility in the U.K. as well with talks ongoing today between HBOS and Lloyds. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure. Until that time, it's more of a 'have you heard' question. Have any CEOs of these failing financial companies refused their payouts and actually accepted any blame for any of this stuff? I don't mean where they get tossed and the fed govt blocks it (which IIRC is what happened w/Freddie and Fannie)..I mean, a higher up going 'this happened on my watch, the millions I don't take should be used to compensate those who trusted us with their money'. alw 0 #9 September 17, 2008 Basically Fannie and Freddie ousted CEO's will not receive "golden parachutes" You can trace this problem back to the loosening of rules under the clinton administration and a little cronyism, but there is plenty of blame in both parties seeking to take the credit for delivering the American Dream. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure. StreetScooby 5 #15 September 18, 2008 Quote This might signal a shift in the landscape that might settle the financial markets Yep. Everyone wants to have access to a bank's balance sheet. I expect they'll work out something where the trading side doesn't have bank regulations hanging over them. GAAP leaves lots of wiggle room.We are all engines of karma
StreetScooby 5 #16 September 18, 2008 Quote Have any CEOs of these failing financial companies refused their payouts Nope. But, Congress axed the golden parachutes for FNMA's and FHLMC's CEOs. Likewise, every company that has been "taken over" by the Fed has had their senior executives fired. If necessary, I expect someone could say the firings were "for cause", thus denying them their golden parachutes, also.We are all engines of karma

Hope your coffee can is hidden well, but wherever it is, it probably isn't earning any interest.
