livendive 8 #52 September 18, 2008 Quote Only a revision of history will put this on Bush, Clinton and the Dems in control have to wear this one, but they will not because the media does not want them too You realize that Bush and the Republicans had the white house AND congress for six consecutive years, including the 19 months following McCain's statement you quoted above, right? Phil Gramm, who lobbied hard in 1999 to repeal several of the regulations that prevented predatory tactics used by lenders and brokers to place homeowners in high-cost mortgages. If the shoe fits. I see you left out some key facts but I understand. but if you care to look some more please look up what law was changed in 1997 that put most of what has happened today into motion"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." billvon 3,133 #56 September 18, 2008 >but if you care to look some more please look up what law was changed >in 1997 that put most of what has happened today into motion. Actually, the 1999 law was the biggest single change in predatory lending regulation in quite a while.

kallend 2,184 #60 September 18, 2008 QuoteQuote>. A few years back McCain and the Bush Admin requested that congress >change the oversite of Fannie and Freddie and predicted exactly what has >happened today. This too is easy to verify. It is indeed. McCain, a year ago: "But so, in this whole new derivative stuff, and SIBs and all of this kind of new ways of packaging mortgages together and all that is something that frankly I don’t know a lot about. . . But I don’t know of hardly anybody, with the exception of a handful, that said ‘wait a minute, this thing is getting completely out of hand and is overheating.' So, I’d like to tell you that I did anticipate it, but I have to give you straight talk, I did not." Looks like McCain is calling you a liar. “If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.” –John McCain, May 26, 2005 I think not So why didn't he co-sponsor the bill in the following Congress? Same bill came up, McCain conspicuously absent from the list of sponsors. Barney Frank got the House version passed.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. A review of the headers of laws passed by the 105th Congress doesn't point me in any particular direction to verify your claim. Given that I can't find whatever law it is you're referencing, all I can say is that the legislature writes laws. In 1997, the GOP controlled the legislature. In fact, the GOP controlled the legislature every year from 1997 to 2007, and they also controlled the White House for 7 of those 10 years. So how is the meltdown that started showing itself in 2007 the fault of the Democrats? And how is the guy who tried to suspend ALL federal regulations in 1995 and who still claims himself to be a "de-regulator" the knight in shining armor? Blues, Dave Oh how fast you forget so as to support your spin. McCain is not my knight is shining armor. He is far far from it. Given what he is running against leaves me little choice as for whom I must cast my vote. That being said, it does not surprise me that law I speak of, that Clinton pushed and signed, is not easiy identified by you. Why? cause you cant have your knight ins shinning armor get any blame for anything at all........."America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." I went to the Government Printing Office's page of all bills passed by the 105th Congress, starting reviewing them one at a time till I realized how long that was going to take, then started searching for obvious terms in the title, like loans, lending, housing, homes, etc. If you have a better term for me to look for, I'll gladly chase it down.
