where are the anti-mccain smears?

McCain has the personality of a washcloth.

That's not actually fair.

Go watch his speech at the Republican National Convention. OK, skip past the first half and listen to him tell the story of being captured in Vietnam. I don't really care how many times I've heard it, and I've probably heard him tell it at least a dozen times, it always gets to me.

Does that make him Presidential material? Probably no more so than the JFK story about PT-109, but it certainly is a GREAT story, very moving.

I don't see how anybody can say he "has the personality of a washcloth" after listening to that.

So I guess you think that this is somehow related?

Yes. Yes, I do. It's directly related to being disabled and using computer technology to communicate.

If you can't see that, then I can't help you.

And I am thankful I do not need your help

>Second, do you think an add about McCain not being able to use email and issue add?

Sorry, couldn't parse that sentence. Care to rephrase?

>do you think Obama has lost it already?

Uh, no. No one loses until the election. I think McCain will continue to gain ground on him. Obama is spending too much of his time doing things like writing books than running attack ads.

one thing I'd like to point out based on the original post: I was talking about smears from Obama SUPPORTERS or McCain SUPPORTERS.

I don't think that most of the false rumors about Obama are being directed by McCain himself, but by those who support McCain (or at least, are against Obama). And most of them are not formally working for McCain's election team. They're just bloggers or emailers (or whatever) spreading rumors. or swift-boat type groups that can put up their own website.

I don't think McCain is encouraging anyone to go around saying that Obama is a Muslim.:P

So why is there more false rumor-mongering coming out against Obama than against McCain (from whatever source)?

Don't believe for a moment that it's not orchestrated by the GOP. They learned the surrogate game from Karl Rove.

As I wrote, the smears are all directed at Palin! :D The Dems cannot regain their focus from her. For some reason, they just can't take their minds off of her.

Agreed, there are a lot of smears coming at her.

>The Dems cannot regain their focus . . .

Well, to be fair, the republicans (at least here) are also the ones saying "I'd fuck her." The democrats are in a tizzy over her, and the republicans are so in love with her that they can't think straight. In that sense it's a good move on McCain's part, although it has led to some trouble with his message.

>And the GOP is focusing on her being cute. Apparently, polling suggests
>that this resonates with the public.

Agreed. Unfortunately, while Americans do have a love affair with the American-Idol-winner types, they also are used to their sudden fall from grace when X is revealed about them, and when the next hottest celeb comes along. And Palin has been giving them plenty of ammunition to use for that downfall.

I find it hard to believe you think the majority of the voters are that shallow. If that is what you see where you live, I am glad I am not there.

I have, unfortunately, come to the conclusion over the past few years that the American public is, indeed, shallow. Bill is agreeing with me.

I myself am taken with Palin. She is striking!!! And she can get away with sarcasm without smarminess.

I get the sense that she is no better than you or me. Just as importantly, she doesn't come across that way.

What are her policy ideas? I'm unsure, but dammit, I like her a lot. She energized not only the GOP, but even people like me who think that the GOP is doing something right with people like her.

And I don't know why I like her. I just do... Well, with the exception that it drives the liberals absolutely bonkers that she's got the chance to go further in acouple of years (on her own) than Hillary has in 20 years of riding her husband's coattails...

that's exactly what scares me about her.

McCain chose her to satisfy the Religious Right.

After the last 8 years of a President saying he invaded Iraq because God told him to do it, that's the last thing we need right now.

If I wanted a candidate who was on a Mission From God, I would vote for Dan Ackroyd.
:S

If McCain's cancer relapses and we wind up with Palin, we've got the most powerful nation in the world run by a religious fundamentalist going up against Iran, run by other religious fundamentalists. With religious fundamentalists, nothing would validate their beliefs more than a big, bloody nuclear war, so that Jeeeezusss or Mohammed (ALLAHU AKHBAAAR!!) will come down and annhilate millions of people in a glorious bloody apocalypse.

I'm hoping that some more rational person or group would be in charge of all that power.:|:|

A persons confidence can feed this feeling a little but, I really believe you know about her than you think and, can anybody honestly tell me whey they liked Bill Clinton for the first term?

But a bit about Palin,
She ran for Gov and lost. The winner put her on a big time board I think to slow her comments down. When she got on the board she did not like the politics and the rest is history.

When she got elected she got rid of an expense that was way over the top, the jet. I dont care if she lost or made money, most here know the day to day costs of operation and more than likely were ahead of the game very soon after is sold.

Another thing that makes her likable (much as you said) are the unfounded paranoid attacks against her, much like the post just before this one. There is nothing in her background that indicates in any way she is god fearing nut. But, those on the left have that unfounded fear toward anybody who says they believe in God. I have my ideas why that is but this is not the thread.

She is a good choice. A woman that is a conservative serves as the major reasons the left is so afraid of her, much like Thomas, only the left can bring women or minorities to greatness. If they come up on their own and are on the right, the threat needs to be destroyed if possible. That is what we are seeing know........IMO

Oh, and ya, she is good looking but I guess I am getting too old to look at that,........ much
