I was in Germany shortly after the Berlin wall was torn down, and I saw first hand the oppression of communism. Communsim and socialism tend to go hand in hand. You can argue the philosophical differences between the two all day, but in the end, they both suck! Well they are completely different so its obvious you don't know that much... Firstly it brought Russia from the third world and into the second... "communism" worked pretty good in some ways. Secondly it has been tried in three places and all three worked great. Thirdly the USSR was not communism and neither are any of the other places you go on to list... I expect something for my money. About the only thing these guys are capable of is running a radar gun.... I look at the Police Blotter and see plenty of arrests from the local city police departments and very little for our useless sheriffs other than traffic... and damned little of that.( I am 3 miles outside the small city jurisdiction that actually cares about its citizenry and actually does serve and protect them) I do appreciate the few drunks they arrest.. and that is about it....now if they could get the meth labs....that cause the high rate of theft..burglary..etc... I MIGHT support them a little more. Personally I think they dont give a damn about the bikers and the meth labs.

jcd11235 0 #225 September 22, 2008 QuotePerhaps you need to learn what 'police state' really means, then. We definitely aren't perfect, but we aren't anywhere near a police state. QuoteFrom wiki: The term police state describes a state in which the government exercises rigid and repressive controls over the social, economic and political life of the population. A police state typically exhibits elements of totalitarianism and social control, and there is usually little or no distinction between the law and the exercise of political power by the executive. A pretty good description of the US, consistent with my own observations in my thirty-five years experience.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
