alw 0 #1 September 10, 2008 This broke about 8:30 PM this evening - want to start a pool on how long it takes to hit the news cycle? From Politico.com Jonathan Martin's blog S.C. Dem chair: Palin primary qualification is she hasn't had an abortion South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, saying John McCain had chosen a running mate " whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.” Palin is an opponent of abortion rights and gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, earlier this year after finding out during her pregnancy that the baby had Down syndrome. Fowler told my colleague Alex Burns in an interview that the selection of an opponent of abortion rights would not boost McCain among many women. “Among Democratic women and even among independent women, I don’t think it helped him,” she said. Told of McCain's boost in the new ABC/Washington Post among white women following the Palin pick, Fowler said: "Just anecdotally, I believe that those white women are Republican women anyway." --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure. kallend 2,150 #2 September 10, 2008 Are you referring to this: "lipstick on the pig, but it's still a pig", John McCain in Iowa on 10/11/2007 referring to Hillary Clinton's health care plan.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
alw 0 #3 September 10, 2008 Come on, even you can't expect anyone to believe that references to lipstick (pit bull) and stinking fish (barracuda) in the same stump speech could be a coincidence. I'll give the campaign points for being clever with subtlety but it was just a bad idea. If the cameras had not been rolling it would have been effective. Sorry folks, no plausible deniability on this one. At any rate I do agree that it has gotten too much press. By the way, being originally from Iowa (the nations largest hog producer) I have seen pigs with lipstick. The shade is the key, they're quite a handsome animal - even without lipstick. I think we can both laugh this one off. --------------------------------------------- Every day is a bonus - every night is an adventure.

I think we can both laugh this one off. You got that right! It needs to be laughed-off. McCain's twisting of every word or phrase coming from Obama is strictly 3rd. grade playground stuff. He's so busy twisting Obama's words, it keeps attention off what he is all about. More of the same for 4-more years. He talks about change... yeah, right! I agree with you, these politician's references to pigs is demeaning to pigs.Chuck
TankBuster 0 #5 September 10, 2008 Its funny, but stupid on Obama's part. A common phrase, but he knew what he was saying. Honestly, I don't think he called her a pig, but he was definitely making a play on her speech, and it wasn't smart. The resulting Republican ad is petty, but effective. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
masterrig 1 #6 September 10, 2008 I don't think, he meant to call Palin a pig, either. He was basically, throwing McCain's own words back at McCain. Obama seems smarter than to put himself in a 'bad' situation. McCain on the other hand, doesn't seem to pass-up the chance! When he does, his 'people' just say; 'He didn't mean it.' Doesn't that guy pre-read his speeches? I think, I'd look for better 'people' to surround myself with. Chuck

She already issued an appology that seemed like an insult to South Carolina voters to me. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. Well, in his defense, he did have a much better plan for healthcare than she did: "Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation. " So vote for McCain, and he can do for your health care what he did for . . . banking.
