Its a "clean diesel," like the Jetta that VW is starting to market; however, Ford is refusing to sell it in the US market for "business reasons." Gawain 0 #2 September 6, 2008 Diesel is super expensive to refine in the US now. As much as I love it, increasing demand for diesel in the US will only restart another speculation tail-spin and drive already super-high diesel prices even higher. The trucking and rail sector will be forced to pass that inflationary element to the end consumer. Add to that, regulators are f**king the market with overly strict diesel refining standards that are already hurting the industrial sector. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Rookie120 0 #3 September 6, 2008 I cannot think of a god reason why they wouldnt sell it here. They say for business reasons? What the fuck! I guess they figure they have to much business already to sell this thing. Looks pretty cool also. I would look into it if was offered here.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! AggieDave 6 #4 September 6, 2008 Honestly, I would be interested as well! I'm a huge fan of VW when it comes to sedans and such and a Chevy fan otherwise (driving a Ford sedan at work, I really hate Ford), but I would be interested in this new vehicle.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." 1969912 0 #5 September 6, 2008 You folks might consider reading the linked article. It offers some good explanations as to what Ford's "business reasons" might be. Does seem like a cool car though. AggieDave 6 #6 September 6, 2008 I read the article, that's why I referenced VW's clean diesel. That kind of vehicle is already being marketed in the US so the concerns are invalid on Ford's part. Its basically a load of BS and shows why their company is failing!--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Its basically a load of BS and shows why their company is failing! VW is pricing itself out of the US market. The BluTec diesel technology is extremely expensive, and creates a massive premium in the cost to the consumer. It's to the point that the reduction of consumption provides no meaningful savings to the consumer or the market. The business case is simple: the US market is too big and demand would cripple the maker, and the supply. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! lawrocket 3 #8 September 7, 2008 "Business reasons" is another way of saying, "we'll lose money with it." If they thought they could make a lot of money with it they would do it. They've probably spent a lot on surveys, etc., to come to that conclusion. My wife is hotter than your wife.
TomSpoon 4 #9 September 7, 2008 This car is less expensive to own and operate and is more enviromentaly friendly. http://automobiles.honda.com/civic-gx/ The Ford would have to get about 80 MPG to be as economical and it's made in Ohio.
RMURRAY 1 #10 September 7, 2008 my opinion. Mark Fields is the idiot that decided the European "B" car needed to be redesigned for NA. That lost them 3 years. Now they can't get it here fast enough. I am a Ford fan but have lost patience and will be getting a Yaris or smart diesel soon.

And in reading the article (which I did not do prior to posting) I saw that much of the issue was actually governmental (big shocker there). California's "four year ban" on diesel passenger vehicles. I used to have a diesel vehicle made by volkwagen. I got nearly 200k miles on the dang thing until the engine wore out and lost some compression. I once filled up in Anaheim and drove to Denver without another fillup (it had a spare tank in the back). I loved the diesel vehicle depite its lack of comfort. But now it would be difficult. You can't find newer ones here. The diesel fuel is now more expensive than gasoline. Etc... My wife is hotter than your wife.
