343 brother firefighters, along with so many innocent people were killed on this tragic day. Many of you like myself knew someone killed, or a family affected that day.

Am I the only one pissed off that the outgoing administration will leave office without capturing or killing Osama Bin Laden?

Never forgotten...

No, I'm mad that our intelligence wasn't able to figure it out and prevent it. We weren't attacked for any other reason than that our airport security sucked. We need to let the scum go over there and preemptively secure our homeland....revenge does nothing.

Better than dead...ineffective.

I'll grant you your pissed off at this administration if you give me pissed off at the previous administration for doing nothing to prevent it.

And the previous one for stirring it up and the previous ones for.....

This dispute with the ME has been sooooooooo old that blame is idiotic, it isn't attrubutable to any one admin, it's the American arrogance that thought we would be impervious to attack, hence horrible airport security.

If 911 were actually startegic we would have 100,000 dead and still be rebuilding. It was a pathetic, thrown-together attack that unfortunately worked to some degree.

You must be talking about the intelligence Billy gutted during his administration.

Oh, can you show data that he substantially diminished the CIA? Furthermore, does it really take a big team of agents to figure out that the Arab nation hates us? Intel or not, the apathy was teh kiler.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Put the bong down

By that you responded to me saying:

- preemptively secure our homeland
- revenge does nothing

So you think revenge works and we don't need to preemptively secure our homeland. I realize you like to automatically counter everything I write, but perhaps you should think that thru a little, we need to forget the revenge and secure our homeland, be it fences, post security, etc.

2 things are pathetic about that article:

1) The date, it was written before the WTC rubble was even cool, the day after the attack

2) Newsmax, that's like believing a rendering from Move.on, unless either has external citations, which this does not.

How abotu the >8 months your dingleberry had to fix all these horrible missteps? Oh, that's right, he had to have the entire month of August off. I wonder if he could have shored up airport security from Jan 20 to July, or perhaps forewent his vacation and did it then? Nah, he has priorities, ya know.

Not a super-good piece of support, a hugely partisan rag.

Actually it's pretty well documented that PResident clinton gutted the CIA and it's network.

1) Let me see fiscal docs, or do I believe you and Newsmax?

2) It doesn't take a 40 trillion dollar budget to figure out that we might come under attack, 2 Maytag men could have figured that out, so why a great need for a 20,000 man agency anyway?

3) Your turd had >8 months to fix it, he didn't even address it.

Bush is not my dingleberry. He is an idiot. I had hope for him 8 years ago but he turned out to be a dismal failure. Also I do not absolve him of any responsibility regarding September 11th, 2001.

However, the point is, this was a failure as a nation. As much as we all like to Bush bash....WE failed as a nation. WE did. And WE continue to do so.

The video is The truth and lies about 911. Watch it with a grain of salt as it's border line conspiracy theory but very informative.

One assessment by the slanted NY Times.

Firefighters are generally under-respected in our society. We give medals and accolades to military REMFs who spend their careers behind desks, and very little to the folks who run into burning buildings to save lives.

Share some specifics on this please (assuming you know)?

The majority of those in the armed forces have not been deployed for a variety of reasons, and while some may think it's "unfair", the units that have gone over, time and again, were designed to do so. The "REMFs" have a job to do too...I can speak fondly of many in the North Atlantic Regional Medical Command that no one in our country should be ashamed of if they did not deploy.

Local communities love their fire departments. Nations love their armies.

I'm sure REMFs have important jobs to do, but when I see ROTC cadets whose major achievement is marching mostly in step with the other cadets and they have two rows of medal ribbons on their uniforms, I have to wonder.

So now you mean ROTC?

ROTC is not active duty...cadets in ROTC and the military colleges get all sorts of badges and awards of achievement when they are done, not all of that follows to active duty.

I think revenge, as you put it, is preemptively securing our homeland against further attack. If we just rolled over and took it up the ass then more groups would join without fear of retribution.

Yeah we know arabs hate us. If, in 2000, we had started racial profiling at airports the ACLU and every other activist group would've throw a fit. The 911 attackers only used box cutters to take over the plane. It's not like they snuck on vest bombs and hand guns. Arabs are still allowed on flights today. The only things stopping another takeover are air marshals and a security bar on the flight deck door. Passengers these days wouldn't let it get that far anyway.

The only two ribbons that transfer to active duty are marksman and Academy grad. Since we're apparently talking ROTC, only one ribbon can transfer and a very very small percentage of ROTC cadets are marksmen.

What does ROTC ribbons and REMFs have to do with 911, anyway?

Not just ROTC (which IS part of the military). Medals seem to be given away like candy these days, so it's hard to distinguish between someone who's really done something special and someone who got medals just for staying awake while sitting in a missile silo somewhere.

Well, for one, the President and his staff can always read briefing memos put on their desks. Especially ones with titles such as;
Bin Laden determined to strike in US

There were a number of failures at every level of the US Government that allowed Sept. 11th to happen.

I wasn't blaming Bush for it being on "His watch". I just find it sad that everyone wants to fight terror and terrorists, but no one has gotten Bin laden yet.

Here's an analogy.
Charlie Manson had his folowers murder a bunch of innocent folks. He did none of the murdering himself.
The LAPD had some run ins with him.
They knew he was a nutter.
After the murders the LAPD found him and tried him.
Was it the police chief's fault his deciples murdered those folks?
Should he have been allowed to hide out and brainwash more followers to do harm to innocent people?

So just because we failed to prevent the attacks, Bin Laden should be allowed to go free after 7 years???

We could start an entire other thread to the ineptness of government agencies to work together.

September 11th happened because of millions of things that happened to allow it.

Should the pilots be at fault because they didn't recognize the situation and go zero-g and pin those bastards to the roof of the planes???

Blame shouldn't be placed. Bin Laden should be found.

Some communities love their fire dept., others not so much until they are needed.
