I believe that the law needs to be strengthened to make it much more difficult for criminals and the deranged to get guns.

Once again, how would you accomplish this?

Better background checks would be a good place to start.

Ok. But who would do the background checks and what information would be contained in the background checks?

(to add to your post) and where would that "information" come from? What "information" would be REQUIRED to be sure the "information" is complete enough (for kallend) for the "better background check" to considered complete?

STRAWMAN.

Ok, I removed the part you used to claim the "Strawman" cop out. Now how do you answer?

OK, if you can tell me what "better background checks" would mean? Specifically?

One that wouldn't allow people like the V. Tech shooter to slip through the cracks.

So you want the government to maintain a database with individuals medical information to be used during background checks?

So, you are advocating government access to your medical records?

Let me ask you this - do you HONESTLY believe that the system in place right now is the best that can possibly be implemented to prevent inappropriate people from easily obtaining guns? Can YOU not think of a single way in which it could be improved?

And while you're thinking about that, remember that the USA has the highest rate of gun homicides of any first world nation.

I stopped reading after the let me ask you this line(I will finish after I type this).

YOU are the one that claims there is a better way right? Well then, in the context of my question what are the specifics that you think can be implimented that will fix all you complain about? YOU brought up the V Tech shooter. How would you get the info in a background check? Give up your privacy rights? If that is what you think (and I am not saying you are) then you had better stop bitching about things like the Patriot Act[:/]

That is your choice! But what about those that choose the exercise the Constitutional right to own one if they choose to? Are you advocating giving up your Constititional right to privacy?

You cant have it both ways sir.......

Now correct me if I am wrong, but don't you need to meet a minimum medical standard in order to drive a car? No one objects to the state indicating on your driver's license that you need glasses

Eyes are tested on site. You are not required to show medical records are you?

more appropriately we have measures that can prevent those who have siezures from having a drivers license. Unfortunately, even then the license does not get revolked until after an incident which is the greatest flaw in better screening for mental illness regarding gun ownership.

How does the state get that information? Is the Dr. requried to report someone as having siezures?

And then there are medicals required if you want to be a pilot, or a tandem master.

There's plenty of precedent.

NO, because I do not want to buy a gun.

The information still needs to be gathered and stored in case you want to buy a gun.

No it doesn't.

NOW ANSWER MY QUESTION.

Ok, so you advocate giving up mental medical records and your right to privacy to stop a few nuts.

Or are you say everyone who wants to own a firearm should go through a mental evaluation?

Pilots, as truck drivers do, take specific exames that are not fishing expiditons. Based on tests.

Are mental evals as black and white or are they more subjective?

"Like most rights, the Second Amendment is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose." "The Court's opinion ... should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms."
Antonin Scalia, for the majority, DC v. Heller, 2008

I am not arguing that. Nice change of subject.

So, since you refuse to make a clear statement on your position I will have to assume you are willing to give up your medical and metal records for a database you could ues to decide gun ownership.

You would throw our a right to kill another.
